Katrina vs. 911?!?!

I just read a post about 9/11 and Katrina, and I don't see how you can ask which is worse, or how you can compare the two. Its like comparing apples and oranges! They were both horrible, and just because Katrina was "an act of nature" doesn't make it less of a problem than 9/11. I think a lot of people are still not informed of how bad Katrina really was, expecially on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, because New Orleans got all the media. Come down to Mississippi Gulf Coast almost 2 years later, and still see the damage done. What are your views on Katrina? What do you think about all of this?

I agree! You can't even compare the two. They were both horrible in their own ways. A lot of people were killed in both. But one was a terror attack and one was a hurricane and flood to follow. There's really nothing, besides the amount of people killed and the victims still having to deal with it everyday, in common.

Thank you! At least someone understands that the two can't be compared.

yes they are different. Both caused damage, both caused loss of life. However, the horrifying disaster of 9/11, I mean mentally on those people at that moment must have been worse. Let me clarify. what I mean is, being on that plane thinking all is good, or going to work thinking you'll be home to have dinner and then .....bam....life change. Didn't see it coming. With Katrina, it was coming and people knew it. Now I'm not critisizing anyone for not leaving. I have never left during a hurricane even when I was supposed to evacuate. But it's a different kind of disaster. Both have had long term effects on this country. But, yes, they are different effects.

Yes for the people in the plane at that moment, life was worse. But thats like anyother car accident or plane accident.

Its very difficult for some people to invisage the magnitude of this disaster. Most have a mental picture of the twin towers and appreciate the devastation that caused in a built up area. But when such a vaste inhabited area was destroyed it can come beyond our imagination to get a mental picture of what happened. We have recently suffered the worse flooding that UK has suffered. Its been the subject in our media for days but in comparison with Katrina it is a flea bite. Infact our whole country would probably fit into the area affected two or three times if not more, in Mississippi.

But I don't see how the two can really be compared in that sense. They both were horrible events that affected so many people's lives, I just think that people not on the Coast during Katrina are really uneducated about it.
