Neo cash Mall?

So does anyone like this idea? They have once a month buy-able collectible items on Gaia Online, but those are only available during that month and are eventually worth a lot of the money-units they use there. I don't think I will be buying anything in the Neopets Mall. The animations are cute though.

I think the idea is nice, but it has gone horribly wrong within two aspects - 1) You can't resell the things you buy for neopoints. I don't see anything wrong with it, other game sites allow it, like the one you mentioned. 2)the items you buy only are available for 90 days. This is just weird. I pay real money for an item that just expires? It's not like it is food, they're just pixels, after all. I could understand, if there would be a possibility to break those items, or a random event that damages them or takes them away, but not the 90 day ownership.

I agree about the reselling. Hopefully the ninety day thing is just part of the beta version. Paying real money for a virtual thing is hard enough to justify, but a virtual object that expires? No way. Thanks for your response

Perhaps you should read this week's editorial, they (the Neopets Team) explain there their reasons why the aspects you mentioned are the way they are.

Thanks I'll take a look at that.

It kind of confuses me. Do you have to use real money or neopoints? I didn't get that! lol

Okay sorry. I guess I should have read other response before asking this! lol. It's clear to me now that it is real money. Yeah I don't like that idea so much! It's too abd because I love some of those things! lol. I hate that they expire too, that's stupid! :)

No problem, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. And yeah, fairly expensive and very cute stuff. I just don't have enough extra cash to be able to justify getting any of them.

Personally, i subscribe to the premium service and I feel like that is enough money thrown at them. They should make everything only worth points. On top of the payments from premium subscribers, they have video games, toys and tons of other merchandise. They don't need to charge real money for items on the site too.

The explanation they gave in the Neo Times article did mollify my objections for the most part. They have taken steps to ensure that the whole thing never gives an advantage to those who are willing to buy them over those who are not. They even went into the reasons why the items all have expiration dates. I still don't plan to buy anything from the neomall, but I no longer feel it's a completely horrible idea. I had the premium service at one point and enjoyed it, especially being able to more accurately price items I'm selling in my shop. But since I tend to stick my pets in a hotel and ignore neopets for long periods of time I couldn't really justify the expense. I have an extremely limited income and need to choose monthly fee type services that give the biggest bang for the buck. Currently that slot is filled by Big Fish game club, and possibly another go at Blockbuster online now that I have a working DVD player again (knock wood). I do miss the premium shopkeeper though.

Considering that the NC is a 1 to 1 ration - if something costs 350 NC to buy, that's $3.50 in cash for something that is going to vanish from your inventory in 90 days. I doubt I will ever make use of this but I have a few friends that have and they said they liked it and will stick with it. Hey, I will hit the mall and blow my money on something that I can take home with me lol.

The disappearing items idea turns out to be due to some sort of legality issues. I'm not sure what, but that's what the editorial about mall questions said. I agree with the idea of buying something permanent instead, but on the other hand, prices compare to a snack food, and they certainly last longer than that would.

I agree with the other commenter that it doesn't make sense for me to spend money on items only to have them disappear in 90 days. I saw the NeoMall today for the first time and wasn't very impressed. I have an account on Second Life, although I have not played much with it yet, and at least there they let you change over the game money into real money and back again. It would be really cool if Neopets would do that for Neopoints, at least for Premium members. The way they're doing it now, though, seems like a huge waste of money.

I don't think they have the kind of budget or built in economy to allow them to exchange neopoints for cash the way, as I understand, Second Life can. But I agree buying something that simply disappears seems a waste.

I think it's so lame! Everything cute and all but that's a lot of money for some pixels that are just going to expire anyway! Maybe if they lasted forever it would be better. Or, like another person said, if you could detach the items and sell them for neopoints. But I won't be participating. They already get enough of my money through premium.

Thanks for your response, I agree, at the least the items need to be permanent.
