Do you buy all new stuff for a baby? Or do you get used items? With my two, I got new clothes for them when they were newborns, but after a few months, started getting mainly used clothing. I got a new bed for my first, and used it again for my second. But after that, got used furniture as far as dressers and other things went. What do you think is best? Used or new?

I got practically no new clothes really. There were some items given to me of course, and a few things that I picked up just because they were too cute to resist, but since kids outgrow things so quickly it just didn't make sense to me to spend a lot of money on things! I was given a lot of used items by friends who had small children, and they came in very useful. As for furniture, when my son was very small I borrowed a cradle, a clamshell playpen, and a couple of other items that have now gone back to their original owners for further usage with later children and grandchildren and such. The crib that my son sleeps in was also given to us, but we did check out all the safety standards and stuff just to be sure, since that's something you have to be careful about. We don't have any special dressers or anything for our baby, so I hadn't even thought about that one.

I bought a whole set for my first child, then reused it for my second, then sold it. My first daughter had my old room furniture, all repainted. For my next, we had to get her a new bed, but the desk was my husbands from when he was a boy, and we bought her a dresser at a resale shop that matched pretty closely!
