I was just trying to resolve all my discussions by choosing best response but I found only one response to one of my discussion and it was not relevant - should I choose it or can I leave the discussion unresolved?

i think it's essential to the people who started the discussions, if you get more best responses it helps to build your star rating quickly. that is what i understand the marking the best responses!

Of course it helps their star rating but should you choose the solitary reply as best even though you don't like it?

There is absolutely no compulsion or need to mark someone best response, it is up to you to decide whether someone has answered or responded to your satisfaction. I usually pick it up on merits and demerits, if someone had really tried to help us and is genuine in his intentions, I don’t hesitate to mark him/her the best response, after all we are not going to lose anything in doing so, in fact the other person will at least improve his ratings and eventually improving the community after all it is a community based only on people, by the people and for the people! LOL

So then you leave the discussion unresolved and they just keep piling in your unresolved folder.

It's up to you. It's no necessary if you can't find any best respond for yourself. But it's nice to give someone with best respond :):). Sometimes, I did not choose the best respond, but if I see one in my repond, I will.

I think it is not necessary always to select,ha once i awhile if you like and think it is the best one you can and this completely depends on you wish and there is no harm in doing this.
