Does your family have family reunions every year? We have a family reunion every year on my Daddy's side of the family on the second sunday in July and My Momma's side of the family near the end of August. I want to bring some food to contribute and I usually bring baked ham or fried chicken. This year I want to bring something different and I have not decided what I'm going to bring? What do you think I should make for the family reunion that is different?

I know that if I bring desset it would not go to waste because when I bake a cake that's the first thing that goes. I can hardly get a piece for myself.

we don't do family reunions or gatherings. most of my family lives far from us some lives in another country. i'd really love doing this because from this reunion, you will better know who your relatives are, from parents, to aunts, to uncles, cousins to grand parents to other generation from your family.

On my momma's side of the family, there used to be a reunion twice a year--once in July (usually the 4th weekend) and once in December near xmas. Unforutnately, they don't do them hardly at all anymore--the last one I went to was almost 15 years ago. As the family got older, more and more stopped going for some reason. They do have one occassionally but not near as often and I haven't been able to make one since the one in 1991 (my oldest was 6 weeks old at the time) I do remember that there was always one HUGE spread of food (my grandmother was one of 17)--there was always plenty of everything. If you have a place to hook up a crockpot to keep things warm, I would make a dish in a crockpot. That way you can do it up ahead of time, remove the ceramic dish and put in the fridge til the next day, and then take the whole crockpot set up with you the next day to warm it up once you get there. There are lots of yummy crock pot dishes to make. I wouldn't make a dessert as it seems there are always plenty of desserts at reunions.

My fathers side had always as far back as I can remember have had a reunion. It has however gotten smaller and smaller. The older generations are passing away and the younger ones are just too busy to get to them. I miss them myself. But my mothers family has never had a official reunion. Occasionaly we would all gather at someones house for a BBQ but it always ended bad all the time. they would get along for a little bit then all heck would break lose LOL. so it was always better to not have the entire family together. I usualy always made meat loaf or deviled eggs. Pickled eggs is a good idea too. Baked beans with bacon and weiners. hotdogs and keilbaska in kraut there alot of ideas. I would just sit down and think for a moment what everyone else usualy brings becuase chances are they will be bringing the same thing again and then come up with something that way. The bad part about changing what you bring is that everyone else may think that you are still going to be bringing it and then no one else may bring it and some might be disapointed lets say if no one brought the fried chicken then. I hope that was understandable LOL. Well good luck to you and hope you have a good time at your reunion.

I've always enjoyed going to family reunions. I learn a lot about my family history when I go. All the family members usually get a family reunion booklet with everyone's contact information and announcements, and a history overview. My family on both sides are still very large. I still do not know all of my cousins. On my mom's side of the family my great grandparents both came from families that had 12-18 children. My Great Grandparents had 12 children and all of their sisters and brothers had about 10 children. One of them had 18 children. My Daddy had 6 sisters and 6 brothers. The families with each generation are getting smaller. People are now having fewer children. I had over 400 people attend our wedding that was related to me that tells you how big our family is.

We used to have one every year when I was kid on my mom's side of the family. Now they are just kind of hit and miss. For something easy that always goes good for me is a 7 layer bean dip. There is no cooking involved and it always gets ate. Usually any main dish like meats goes well because not alot of people bring those. It seems like alot of people bring chips or desserts. Another thing that is always gets ate is sloppy-joes. They are a favorite among the young and old.

my dads family has one every year, and i go every couple of years. it seems as though all the old reletives go, and its kind of boring to me. it is funny to see them all talk about eachother after one of them leaves. no family is perfect!

No my family does not have a family reunion. The last family reunion we had was about 10 years ago on my mom side. About 5 years ago I tried to form a reunion but no one responded back. I really enjoy family reunions. You get to meet family you never met before and you get to spend a weekend with all of your family and have fun. Baked ham and fried chicken sounds pretty good to make. Or maybe you can make a pie, maybe a sweet potato pie. You can also make a pasta salad, my aunt always make those when we have a little get together.

I do not know much about the american culture. I do know that you guys get together for thanksgiving or christmas and stuff. There are thousands of religions in the world and every religion has some aspect where family members are supposed to come together to pray or celebrate and stuff.

We have reunions every other year on both my dad and mom's side of the family. The same for my wife. So every year we go to 1-2 reunions. They spread out from June to August. I love playing volleyball and indoor games like Bingo. Family members can be great to laugh at.

I don't think my husband's side of the family have family reunions. I think that one year I might try to help them organize one of course I would need some help from other family members. We live about 4 hours from them so it might be kinda hard to organize something at a distance. I would like my children to get to know that side of the family also. They do not see them that often.

Yes,My family does always have a family reunion.but it has been so many years since I have been able to attend one of them. I live 1000 miles away from where I was born and raised. It is very hard for me to get back home once a year, I can never arrange my vacation around the reunion.

My mother's side of the family has reunions, normally in the summer time, I think they try to do one for thanksgiving and the 4th of july, its kind of neat when all of you family gets together and you get to meet people you have never meet before. I would make some homemade gacamole and just brings some tortilla chips! yummy!

My father-in-laws family has a reunion every year in July. We go every year, It is always at the same park and in the same area every year. We need to bring our own food for the most part but the family are mor than likely to share if you forget something. We go swimming and play games and take tons of pictures. It is a blast and we look forward to it every year.

hi magnet such reunions often held by my father's family side we used to have the reunion twice a year, on the lunar year's day, around january or february.. and around april on the ceng-beng day, which is known as the lunar day for the spirits we usually have a shabu-shabu together in my uncle's place he has a quite large house which is capacious enough for 50 to 60 people when we gathered together my family is quite a big one.. hehee from my mom's side, we really seldom have a reunion my mom's sister are indifferent, everytime we tried to have one, they seemed not interested so we seldom reunite.. huhhh my mom always bring a phun-kue, a traditional chinese cake made from wheat flour ^^ i like the cake very much thanks magnet.. ^^

Not as often as I would like. I have only attended one and that was loads of fun, meeting up with family and meeting new members too. Its usually a get together at a hall, and different activities are done mostly with the children. There is usually a reading from each family and how we are connected. We did go through our family tree that time too. Very interesting to know the history of ou family. I like them too!

Well my dad's side of the family just had the first family reunion last month. We had the family reunion at a park in the mountains. It was really nice. We had sandwiches, chips, potato salad and all sort of other dishes. It was just a fun day out in the sun. Maybe you could bring some sort of casserole or something. Or maybe some sort of dessert. That might be a good change.

This year we are having our family union at a recreation center by the lake. The mountains sounds like a wonderful place to have a reunion. If I volunteer to sponsor it one year I might suggest that. I might bake a cake since I am really good at baking cakes.

hi magnet, Yes, our family does have a family reunion each year. It goes way back. My grandma took me as a baby and I won a prize for comming the farest away. It was a deviled egg dish and I still have it to this day. It was funny for a baby to win this and my grandma saved it all these years. I am not a person to cook so I wouldn't know anything to bring. What we bring is fried chicken, baked beans, mac and cheese, or a special dessert. I posted not to long ago about family reunions I was wondering how everyone's family reunions went. What we do is we give a few prizes for youngest baby, farest away, longest married, oldest person, etc. We eat and just talk. Nothing else really. We wanted to do something to bring more people to come. Next year we are going to try karaoke since we put karaoke on as a side jobs. A friend of ours told me at their reunions each bring something they don't want and they action it off and the money they raise goes to helping mow the cemetaries of past loved ones, or to fix tombstones. I thought that was interesting. Good luck in finding something different to take.
