Did anyone hear about the newest swimming pool danger? Last night on the news there was a story about a girl in minneapolis who sat over an open drain in a public golf club pool and had part of her intestinal track sucked out. Apparently it ripped a hole in her rear end and ripped out a good portion of her lower intestine. She amazingly survived but will have a lot of medical problems for the rest of her life. She'll have to receive food and such through a port the rest of her life for one. That's so sad and scary that simple things you don't think too much of can seriously injure you. Who ever thought a pool suction could pull out your organs? You can find the story here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/07/05/national/main3021915.shtml

Oh my goodness! That's insane. I would have never thought that a drain could do so much damage. These sad stories are reasons I don't watch the news much. I'll have to remember to tell my future kids not to mention nieces and nephews to NOT sit on or near the suction drains in pools. That's just scary!

Ha ha have you been going through all my recent discussions I've started :)? I didn't know that this could happen either and I was baffled when I read about it! BUT, after this one of my Mylot friends posted a story about a Dog sodomizing a two year old boy! Now that, I still haven't been able to wrap my head around! The world is a crazy crazy place!

I don't know. the mom had walked out of the room and the dog brought the kid outside and the neighbor stopped it. They were investigating and doing dna to make sure it really was the dog. it's an insane world.

I read about this. It's terrible isn't it? It only takes seconds to change your life forever.

According to the article they didn't think anything was wrong with the pool either. That club is going to go down hill for sure! I know she did survive, but sometimes I have to wonder...is it worth surviving? I know it sounds horrible, but sometimes it's true.

You're right about that. Imagine a six year old having to live for the rest of her life in that situation. I really don't know if I could handle seeing her that way if I was the parent. Of course, I don't have kids and don't really know what it's like to be parent in that situation either.

it's kinda like the thing where the son was forced to rape his mom. Would you want to live remembering that you were forced to rape your mom or that you were raped by your son? I don't think I would!

i had heard of a few cases of that happening to an adult, but never a child.that's truly sad :( they need to start putting some kind of block on those things so it can't build up the downward pressure like that.

Wow. I never even thought it could happen to an adult! it's scary to think your organs aren't totally safe in your body. Some states have specific laws about filtration systems and drains and such. The golf club says there was nothing wrong with it and they didn't do anything wrong... that golf club is in serious danger I think.
