How do you keep your cat from biting you while he's taking a bath?

My big cat is really starting to stink! Maybe it's all the hot weather, or something he got into. So, that means, it's kitty bath time again. But, I'm worried that our big cat will go nuts and try to take off my finger while I'm bathing him. He's a bit of a wild card and doesn't like bathing. Is there a way I can keep him calm so that he can get clean? Are there any easier ways to get rid of the bad cat smell without water? Would love to know?

I'm just now getting my new cat used to having me comb and brush her (she gets really bad mats if I don't do this) and from this experience, there is no way I would attempt to bathe her...if she gets a bath it will have to be done by a groomer. I've always heard that cats clean themselves too, but some time ago I ran across a little cartoon that said "Cats aren't really clean, they are just covered in cat spit!" and since then I'm not too sure about the self-cleaning theory. LOL

I like the cat spit theory! Guess they've survived for eons outdoors with nothing more than cat spit, though. Mine smells pretty nice for a cat that never gets a bath and only bathes in spit. I do not know why. But, sometimes he will get into a big stinky mess in the house and that is when the bathing will come into play. Thanks for dropping by.

Cat's clean themselves and they don't like water. It's mean to give a cat a bath as we do. They don't like water and they clean themselves. I've never given my cat a bath, I've given my dog a bath but never a cat.

This really depends on your cat. Have you ever bathed him before? I have two cats, one I can give a bath without a problem. I use the laundry tub downstairs, but the sink is a good idea, too. He doesn't bite or claw...he just tries to get out if I let him close enough to the edge. My other cat was a stray, and I think she'd take my arm off if I tried to bathe her. If your cat goes outside, maybe just spray him with the hose so that he cleans himself? If you do bathe him, make sure to rinse well, the soap is very irritating to their skin. If all else fails, you can probably pay the vet to give him a bath. Good luck!
