How can I increase my traffic and get good ads?

I have a new website, spoutawf.com, that I recently started. The forum is looking nice, but I don't have much info up yet. Is there a way to increase my traffic other than by spending hours getting it's ranking on google and other search engines up? Is there an easier way?
Also, I tried to use google adsense for ads, but because I have no traffic, they refused me. Are there other ad companies out there that I can try?

The only thing I can think of is to go to other forums which have similiar themes and let them knowm. I will certainly be checking it out. You join places like myspace just to let people know about your site.
Can you submit yourself to seach engines - I just asked my husband and that's what he did. He is County Rep for Mufon here in Bernallino and Sandoval counties and he started the area website.

yeah, I submitted it to search engines, but it's not going up the list real fast.
