Should Rushdie get a knighthood

July 11, 2007 11:14am CST
In this edgy world we live in should politicians play with our lives. The latest example of this is giving Rushdie a knighthood, then when threats begin say we will not back down fronm the British way of life. I am all for principles and some things, like unprovoked terrarist attacks should be stood up agains but...what right have our politicians got to put us, the public, indanger for such a trivial principle. Anyway what the hell has Rushdie done to deserve it, perhaps give the Labour party some money???

but don't you think this a very badly thought out action. Surely the Government was negligent in authorising this knighthood. They must have known it would cause trouble and it is really only the British public that have been put at risk on a whim.

No. That would to be intimidated. "It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself." all the best urban

If you consider his contribution to literature, he surely does deserve a recognition for what he has done. And isn't that what awards/knighthoods are supposed to do-bring somebody the recognition they deserve? But then, in this age where everything seems to have a political connotation and an ulterior motive, maybe we can't say.
