open relationship

Is it possible to have an open relationship with someone whom you love but don't want to be with anymore? Any thoughts on how to deal with this kind of relationship will be appreciated...

Of course it's possible. But it seems like a bit selfish to do so, because if you do so you don't want to bear any responsibility to your love one and don't want to have the burden. Just correct me if I am wrong!
