Can you make money advertising on my space?

I recently have been recieving emails about advertising on my space and making money from it. After reading the emails it sounds like a scam so I always delete them. We are a one income family with four kids so I am always looking for a legitimate business to make a little extra money with. Has anyone tried to make money from my space or tried to do avertising on my space and get profitted for it. If anyone has any input please let me know.
