Tips for newbies! Anyone new to My Lot?

Hi everyone! Just back from my ever so brief vacation and I'm seeing many more new faces. I wanted to share a couple ideas that I had to help anyone who might be brand new and searching for answers. During my time here, I've earned a lot of money and a little bit of money. My best day was $3.87. My worst was five cents. It all depends on how much effort and brain power you put into posting on My Lot. So, here goes: 1. Read the My Lot posting guidelines and any rules! These are your guides and there to help you. And, as they say, if you have a question, don't be afraid to ask someone that works on My Lot. They will have the real answers for you. 2. Earnings: I am not going to pretend for a minute that I could actually figure out their earnings or compensation plan. It's a mystery to me. When I first started posting on My Lot they paid more for posting discussions that drew a great response. Some days I got five cents or more per discussion. I think that amount has gone down since. You won't get paid as much for posting a response. But, posting responses is easier than actually coming up with new discussions. 3. Provide lengthy responses to discussions and you'll get paid better. Strive for good quality content and actually contribute to the discussion, rather than making up things as you go along. No one liners! Says so in the rules. And, you don't get paid for them, either. A high quality response might pay five to ten cents. While a more brief response would pay one to two cents. Try to write 2 or 3 quality paragraphs each time, and you'll see your earnings go up. Don't post to a discussion if you don't have an answer! That doesn't pay too well, either. Even if you don't have an answer, try to offer some advice or support from your own personal experience that might relate to the problem or issue. It's the effort that counts. You may still get paid for that. 4. Avoid controversial topics or spam style questions, as these most often get deleted anyway, along with any earnings you gained from posting to them. And, don't get wrapped up in office politics on My Lot. Everyone has a different opinion. And, telling them why their opinion is wrong will only earn you enemies. 5. Use the spell checker everytime you post! The day I stopped using the spell checker, my earnings took a nose dive. 6. Make friends everywhere! Your My Lot friends want to hear from you and will search out your discussions. Without friends, very few people will respond to your discussions on a regular basis. And, your My Lot friends will come to your defense if someone from the outside is rude or mean to you. 7. Post like crazy until you hit 500! When you hit the 500 mark, you can copy/paste and that will save you so much time. 8. Track your earnings. On some days, you should only post replies. And, then others, post just discussions and no replies. Keep track of how many you post for each day. Then compare your earnings for each day. This will give you a better understanding of what pays and what doesn't. 9. Don't feel compelled to babysit your own discussions. Once you start a discussion, let it be and you'll get more responses. And, subsequently more money from My Lot. Drop by occasionally and update discussions. Say hello to your friends. Thank one or two people for their advice. And, then move on. Don't overdo it! P.S. You don't get paid when you post to your own discussions, so why spend all day doing it? Just a few tips for newbies! If you have been here at My Lot for awhile and would like to post your own tips, please feel free to do so.

Hello beautyqueen. Your tips and suggestions are really helpful. I'm not super new to mylot but your suggestions still helped me. I joined a month ago and I rarely log in to mylot as it hinders me from doing things that I ought to do. Now, I have more tips from you so I am more confident with what I am doing and I have a clearer direction as to where I'm going in this community. Thanks a lot.

Most certainly, My Lot is very addictive! But, it's the good kind of addiction. Most days I can't simply hang out at My Lot all day, so I keep an notepad with me as I go about my day. Most of my ideas come to me while I'm offline and this helps me keep track of them. Most times I can fill up two or three pages with potential discussion topics while I'm cleaning the house or cooking supper. Then when I get a spare minute, I'll simply pop into My Lot and post one or two discussions. And, at the end of the day, I've gotten the most important work done plus a little time online at My Lot. It's a real time saver. And, all those posts do add up at the end of the day to a very nice income. Maybe this idea would work for you too! Best of luck. And, keep posting.

The main way that I try to maximize my earnings from discussions is to do what you recommend and post lengthy responses that actually help both the person who started the discussion and the other people reading and responding to it. I read once that a response should be at least three paragraphs long and each paragraph should have at least four lines. Sometimes this is hard to do especially if the discussion that you are responding to is short in length itself. I have also heard that you are penalized for responding to discussions that are only one or two sentences long. I don't know whether or not this is true but I noticed that most of the discussions I receive any more are short. Therefore I try to eliminate these and only reply to those that are more lengthy.

I believe that is right. I've noticed that on days when I post shorter discussions I don't earn as much. Perhaps it is because they simply don't pay for that. The My Lot rules do state something about not posting survey style questions. I think they are looking for discussions that will generate lots of responses between the My Lot members and not simply one time answers. Yesterday I put extra thought and effort into my discussions and that signifigantly increased my earnings. It's not really hard coming up with a few extra paragraphs per post or reply, either. Most times I'll add a personal story or relate personal experiences in my own discussion or response, in addition to any advice, and it helps others relate to the issue that I am discussing.

Thank you very much beautyqueen, I really learned a lot from your discussion. It seems we always discover something new about the mylot system everyday. I always make my responses at least 4 lines long all the time. I figured that way I get to earn at least one cent per response. I try to comment on all responses I receive to the discussions I start. I think that keeps the discussions up and makes them more visible so it could attract more responses. I also make sure all spellings are checked and luckily for me I have a spell checker in built into my firefox browser. I have been trying to reach 500 posts for a long time but I am determined not to comprise any of my responses to get there. They all have to be of good quality and at least 4 lines long. I also make sure I respond to only discussions that are of good quality and that I am sure of making a real contribution too. Those discussions are a little harder to find so reaching 500 may take a bit longer. Thanks for this topic.

Thank you so much Beautyqueen26. I have been searching for something like this all day on mylot. Im new here and im really trying to make a few bucks. I have the patience and the drive. i want to really join the community here but I also want to get paid LOL. But I will take all of your advice and do the best that I can do with it. Ill start making more topics now other than responses and make them really good. At first when I came here I started to think mylot wasn't a really good payer, but its seems that from post liek this from members. Mylot is a really good place and after being here for a while you will forget all about the money. Again, thanks Beautyqueen26 for the great advice that you have given to us newbies here. It is really appreciated. And I will add you as a friend

Thanks! I'm new here and this discussion seemed like a good place to start. I am still pretty uncertain of how this all works, but I'm hoping that with a little trial and error I will be able to work it all out! I suspect that I will be coming back to this post a couple of times to re-read these tips! Thanks again.
