I'm new to the whole web design thing, as you can see at http://namd3r.awardspace.com/ . I know a fair amount of html/xml, style sheets, a little php and mysql. Should I continue with these languages? Or should I learn something new or more powerful? Like I know nothing about PERL or CGI. Could someone tell me about these languages?

for me : (ratings) 1. PHP and mysql - because you can use any browsers for this scripts. 2. ASP - easy to deploy 3. ASP.NET - many features, yet very sophisticated 4. CGI, PERL - classic, i only use this for my SMS+website integration.. 5. ACTIONSCRIPT - if you want to be a Game developer...

Thanks a bunch! Do you know where I can find information about these? I think I'm okay for PHP and MYSQL, but the rest I have never heard of until now.

Well you got almost all ingredients to develop a professional site. Almost every site uses PHP and MySql combination. If you could learn a bit of jvascript then you are ready for complete web site development. Perl and CGI is not at all importent if you know PHP. I am a developer and i am into PHP-MySql. I dint ever have to use Perl or any other languages (expect PHP and Javascript) in my projects.

It's good to know that I don't have to learn a lot of new languages for my web pages. I already know and am learning a more about PHP, Javascript, and MySQL, so learning Perl and CGI would be too much of a hassle right now, seeing as I have no need for it.

if you want free e-books go to www.pdfchm.com you should continue on. PERL is similar to PHP. Master PHP and MySQL first

As far as my taste is php and mysql this combination has lot of advantages. Mostly used combination in LAMP environments.
