Birth Control after having a baby

Which is the best to take while breastfeeding? I got the depo shot, and it messed me all up! I was on my period for a solid 7 months straight. I only got the shot one time. After 3 months, I switched to ortho tri cyclin. I also quit breastfeeding. It still didn't stop my period, so after being on my period for 6 months total, I switched to lo-estrin 24. After a couple weeks, I finally stoped my period for a week and a half, then was on in for a week and have now been off my period for about a month and a half. Err, my system is all messed up. Anyone else have these problems or any recommendations?

oh you poor thing! i would hate to be on my period for so long! for me, things work the opposite. once i am on the shot, my period goes away. i knew that after i had my second son, that i wanted to get back on the shot. my life is so hectic already, i dont want another little thing to mess with. i would rather it just be gone. so it is. was this your first time trying the depo shot? i have read and heard of stories where the shot actually acts like a poison to our bodies. instead of making things easier (no period), it actually makes things worse, like what you described. i have a friend who tried the shot also, and only had it done once. she had her period for 6 months straight! i felt so bad for her because i was the one who talked her into trying this kind of birth control. i guess we all have to find the right one that works with our bodies. i cant do birth control pills because if i miss a couple in a row, i will end up pregnant. i know from experience...BUT it was done on purpose.

I have 5 children and have had all kinds of different B/C. I took the depo shot also and had terrible side effects, and most of my friends said the same. After having my tubes tied...............and then a baby 2 1/2 years later (I am soo glad I have her) my doctor suggested an IUD (Mirena) they have a 5 or 10 year. We opted for the 5 year and I have had 0 problems. I had break thru bleeding for the first 2 months and have had no period since. No weight gain, no headaches. It has worked great for me.

That's good. Only thing about the IUD is I'd freak out about not having a period. Plus I have a history of ovarian cysts too, and I've heard that cysts are a possible side effect from it.
