Have you ever been hit by an Uninsured Driver?

This happened to me in 1992. Luckily, there were two witnesses. Someone came plowing out of a gas station and slammed right into the passenger side of my car. It caved the door in but I was OK except for some minor whiplash. It was his mom's car and the insurance was expired. When he hit me, it spun me around and pushed my car into another car which was driven by a suspected illegal alien. I asked him in Spanish when we were exchanging information for his license, registration, anything! He had nothing. His brother called me that evening and wanted me to pay for repairs to the bumper of the car. I told him that car was technically not supposed to be on the road in the first place, and I was not going to pay for the bumper repair. The police were called to the scene but I don't think they came. Seems like they don't even show up at auto accidents unless someone is laying in the street dying of their injuries.

I once was hit by a guy driving a car that had 30 day tags that was purchased with a stolen license. He rammed into the back of my idling car at a light and then backed up and sped off. My insurance was great and got a rental car and the repairs. I too had whiplash and managed to bowl anyway at the time. Police and EMS both came. Hubby was called and he got off work and came to pick me up and take me home. Glad you were ok. Good luck that nothing like this will even happen again.

It's very discouraging hearing all the stories. Makes me want to stay off the roads. Did they ever catch the driver who sped off? Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime. I'm glad that both EMS and police showed up. That doesn't always happen.

I don't think he was ever caught. A bit too hard to trace and all. Crooked people can use the very system to protect us ... against us. I love to drive and just do so very aware of what is going on around me. Good luck and I hope you neve experience any kind of accident in the future.

My husband had his car scraped by another car who was cutting through lanes. He got the tag number but the guy didn't stop. It took the police almsot 2 weeks to get ahold of the guy. At first they were going to repaint my husbands bumper and everything was about to go through then all the sudden the guy denied being there and the insurance company and the police said it had been so long by this time that there was no way to find out. They have tapes on the bridge where it happened but since time had went by they no longer had them. Even the file had been closed becuase they thought the insurance companies were working it out. It really bugs me when people are so careless. Then it makes your insurance rate go up to boot. It sounds like your damage was much worse then ours. I hope you got it worked out.

Wow, did the guy get charged with leaving the scene of an accident, at least? I can't believe they didn't hold the bridge surveillance tapes longer. My car was in the shop for 3 weeks. The first week I was on vacation, and then I had to wait for 2 more weeks after I got back. The paint job was "orange-peeled" and it just didn't look like the same car. I was heartbroken. Once in awhile the whiplash injury in my neck flares up. Doctor said it's something that will be with me the rest of my life. Great...
