Here it is, the showdown between the next installment of the critically acclaimed Guitar Hero franchise. . .versus Rock Band, a brand new development by the old development team that made the original Guitar Hero, only this time, the whole band is involved. That's right, guitar, bass, drums, and even vocals. Which one are you rooting for? If you wanna know more about these, there are plenty of things out there on numerous sites, so I'm not gonna recommend any specific article, any of 'em will probably do. Of course, Guitar Hero 3 is gonna be great, but Rock Band is gonna have the whole band! I'm sure RB will be much more expensive, unless you just stick to one instrument and buy the others later, but also another advantage is that it will feature lots of Metallica!!! Ok, so that's not an advantage for everyone, but certainly for me. One other cool thing though, is that they're planning on making full albums available for download, so you can play more than just classic songs, you can play an entire setlist from your favorite band! So basically, Rock Band gets my vote, I'm really looking forward to it, but Guitar Hero 3 will also probably be great, so maybe I'll get it too, eventually.

I missed all the coverage on Guitar Hero 3, but rock band looks like it's taking the genre to the next level. The very cool thing about it all the online play. You can stick to your preferred instrucment (if you wish) and hook up with others online to flesh out a full band. I'm justing wondering how much the rock band setup is going to cost. Personally I'm thinking about getting the drums setup if its not too pricey so I can get a better understanding of drums in general. When ever I start composing music, the first thing I do is lay down a drum track and it's the part I hate the most...

The drum kit on Rockband looks pretty cool. I think it's either 4 or 5 drum pad things with one pedal beneath that I'm guessing will probably just be a bass pedal but maybe it'll double as a hi-hat as well. The drum pad things on the top will be the snares, toms, and cympals. I've read that on expert mode once you've mastered the game you can pretty much play drums. That's probably a bit of an exaggeration, but still, it sounds pretty cool.

I heard the same thing in regards to playing the drums, although the kit does look very close to a real drum kit, or a least a starter one. Realistically, you probably would be able to play the drums since it's about rythum, and hitting the rights drums in the right timings. It would be a nice like trainer for buying a electronic kit, or drum pad kit. I've been threatening to learn to the play the drums forever, because it really would make my recording life tons easier if I could just do it myself...I'm keeping and eye on this one. Do you have anything specifics on Guitar Hero 3? I haven't really heard anything about it. On the Guitar Hero front the only thing I have heard is that they are planning on releasing an 80's version soon, which might be really fun.

I recently checked out the track list for the 80's one (it is a stand alone, sister title to GH 1 & 2 for the PS2) and there is lots of good metal tracks on it including, Dio (woohoo), Quiet Riot, Accept, The Scorpions, Ratt, and Judas Priest. Looks good and is set for a September or November Release.

If Rock Band is done right, its gonna be an amazing game. They're gonna have to get the play mechanics right for the drums and the vocals to make the game worth it. Guitar Hero 3 is gonna be awesome also.

I think they will. I haven't seen any video but I've seen some screenshots and the vocals look like they'll work pretty well.
