what are your tricks to put away the food in the compost in the house? I try to accumulate the scraps in a bucket and then go out to put it in the compost but it is the season of fruit flies and I am having a lot of problems with the scraps. Do you have any suggestion ( other then going out right away with every piece of vegetable or food) ?

It helps if you keep a tight lid on the bucket. I do this in the winter. For summer I keep the scraps in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator in containers with lids.

Your best bet is a trash bin with a lid on it. Keep it on your back porch or close enough by to reach so you don't have to go out every time and spread it through the garden or flower beds.. then go out about once a week and distribute your collection easily.

Put a container that has a lid on it under your sink or somewhere else that you put your scraps in. Put small holes in the lid (small enough so that flies cannot get in. pt some garden soil in and a few earthworms to compost the scraps in th bucket. The worms will turn to scraps into compost in the bucket and hopefully the flies cannot get into the bucket to lay their eggs. You also want to put small drain holes at the bottom (to help keep the material from getting too wet and set this bucket on something that will catch the drippings, these drippings are food to water your plants with.
