a similar organisation? I'm interested to hear your experiences and what you found interesting about the countries you visited, and the work you did there.
My husband worked for the PeaceCorp office in Samoa (local worker in their IT dept)and mostly met with USA volunteers. It was always interesting to hear about their excursions and travels they did while working for organisations like the PeaceCorp.
I know that Japan, New Zealand and Australia had similar organisations in Samoa as well, that had volunteers working in the education, agriculture and fisheries, computers, teaching, and a few other fields too.
Have you ever thought to try something like this? volunteering your services or the skills you have for another country? I think I might like to do this one day in the future.

nope i have not, but I've met folks who have. yup i would like to do something like this too. funny you should mention this. there was a write-up in the newspapers today about people who have chosen to do volunteer work with their usual holiday times.
i suppose that's not quite the same as long term work, but it gives a different perspective of life once you share a week or so with those in real poverty.
which country would you like to do this work in? I've always thought perhaps China or maybe somewhere in Indochina.

I would think Latin America, Asia or even the Pacific Islands. I hope I am able to do something like this later in life.
I might just check out that newspaper article, thanks squaretile.
