Runaround

Some, including my staff, might say I'm very picky. But how in the heck annoying is it when the text is closer to a photo or graphic on one side, then far away on the other? I know relief space in the form of white on a page is a good thing, but arbitrary spacing issues (runaround) gives the entire publication an amateur feel. Thought I'd toss that one out, and yes, I have a pica ruler in my desk to measure.

Page layout need not always be filling a page with text and graphics, but providing white space in an aesthetic way, uninterruptedly conveying the the content, which also emphasis the layout artist's knowledge of the content.

I agree that readers need some white eye relief. But the text runaround around the outside of a graphic, when fully justified, should be even, and consistent until deliberate open space is created......don't you agree? It sure shouldn't be inadvertent.

Yes of course, I agree 100%. Anything in the page should be deliberate, or at least the reader should never feel it as inadvertent. :-)

White space is eye relief--done right, that is. Sorry I haven't been back here in a while. Deadlines suck.

I agree with you, I was editor of my highschool yearbook for 2 years (it was a small school so I did it all by myself) and I know the horrors of "trapped white space" hahaha.

I can't imagine doing the yearbook, of all things, by yourself.
