My son potty trained himself!

My son is 5-years old and Autistic. I've spent the past couple of years trying to get him potty trained. The problem is that he was terrified of sitting on the potty. Even the little kid one that I bought.
Well, I ran out of pull-ups last week and wasn't able to get more. So he wore "big boy underwear" and actually slept naked since it's so hot. He can get into the bathroom from his bedroom and my bedroom from the bathroom. And I kept finding a stream of pee in the bathtub every morning, and not a wet bed (which is what I expected).
A couple of days ago, I walked into the bathroom to find him squatting on the toilet, facing the tank and peeing. When he got off the potty, he flushed and I helped him wash his hands.
He hasn't worn a pull-up in over a week, he's peed his pants only about 3 times and there hasn't been a "messy" incident, so he's taking care of business in that department, too.
I just need to get him to tell me when he has to go, so I know to take him to the bathroom when we're in public.
I'm so excited. I just thought I'd share.

I have a son who's turning 4 this September. To tell you the truth, he first learned to pee in the toilet rather than to poo. He's language delayed and can only say one to two words that are clear enough. But when he talks in more than two words, it's not clear to understand. My son likes to poo on his diapers. I still try from time to time to let him sit on the toilet, still with no success. He's still afraid even if I put on the soft toilet seat for kids. He still refuses to poo in the toilet. My biggest puzzle is he doesn't want to pee when he's at school. He will hold on for 3 hours straight and will just have an accident. His teachers told me that he didn't say anything that he wants to pee. So, whenever he's at school, I still have to put on his pull-ups.
