Staying Focused

Now that its summer time and I spend most of my time alone at my house...I have a hard time focusing on writing even when I find inspiration. There's so many distractions in every room of my house, and things like watching TV take a lot less effort than writing. I really want to write some more but I can't seem to keep focused! Does anyone have some tips? What do you do to keep yourself focused on writing?

i have heard it said that writers are the only people that would rather scrub toilets than write because the task often seems to overwhelming! when i wrote full time for a living at home, i blocked out everything else...its not really that hard to do...perhaps you can take little breaks while you are writing. i dont have any tips, sorry, but this is just something that only you can do for yourself.

i think it really is a personal dedication to writing and not by some tip that you can focus on writing. . even if an advice is given, we can still think that it's difficult or "it's easier to watch tv". . but if you can mentally get yourself to block off those distractions then, no matter what else is there then it wouldn't matter. . .other than that, the logical solution is confine yourself in a room where you can do nothing but write. . .a room that is bare, with probably only a desk, a seat and your paper and pen. . . just don't doze off, .. that's also easier to do, right?

What I do is to get one of those software timers, and no matter what time of the day it is, set it at a certain amount. For instance, if I set it at 45 minutes, I have to do 45 minutes of writing that day. In this way, if I can only do 30 minutes at a time (my eyes get tired and I start to feel sleepy) I can do the 15 minutes later.
