I still enjoy having my kids around - Our culture is such that our children stay with us even when they have reached adulthood; we just couldn't allow our kids to leave us and live an independent life--that is possible only when they get married, then we experience the so-called 'empty nest', and how I dread it...but it is part of the cycle of life, and I just have to prepare for it. Meanwhile, I should enjoy my children's company in our house...
It depends where you are, and whether your parents permit you to be living independently or not. I guess for Americans, that practice is common. But for us Filipinos, that is indeed rare. Maybe there are a few parents who may allow such arrangement, but for my case, I don't..I mean when my children were 18 years old, they were still in college, and naturally, we gave our full support to them. Now that both of them are already adults (25 and 22 respectively), they are still living with us, both are still single, and I am happy they are still with us...until further notice of course...I'm sure they will soon leave when they get married. But as of now, they are still very much under our care, and I'm happy to, as long as my two kids like to....

People need to start working when the timing is right for them, not necessarily because they reach a certain age. I know people who had good jobs at 15 or 16, and I am 25 and unemployed, because I've not yet found a job that fits me.
