Also there are legal aid programs in many states, you may want to look into that. Any legal procedure without a lawyer can be risky, especially if he has a representative. If you don't mind me asking, on what grounds are you seeking a divorce? If there has been any abuse in the relationship, you may want to consider a restraining order. If you feel he is neglectful of your children's needs, document it. If he's cheated, document how you know. If it's a no-fault divorce & your both reasonable people not having a lawyer may not be a problem; but keep in mind that people aren't usually reasonable when fighting over their kids & property.
