surely it's cheap. you might ask what's the specification of this hundred dollar laptop. it doesn't contain hard drive, cd or dvd drive, ethernet port for wired internet connections. so what does it contain? expect the following for the laptop: 1GB flash memory, waterproof case, solar or foot-pump or full-string power chargers, low power processor, 3 USB ports, AMD 433mhz chip, wi-fi adapter, green waterproof rubber qwerty keyboard, low power dual screen, 640x480 resolution video camera which can be light meter, has bespoke Linus operating systems developed by open source company Red Hat. it has Firefox browser, word processor for document files including Microsoft types, pdf reader, media player, games, music creation tool and drawing program. quite a lot, huh? XO laptop is a project of One Laptop Per Child which aims to provide education to schoolchildren in the developing countries. the mass production will be produce in Taiwan by Qanta, the world's largest laptop manufacturer. but intel charmain described it as a $100 gadget or microsoft's bill gates questioned its designed because of lack of hard drive and tiny screen. Test machines of the laptop in 50 degree oven and they keep on running. The XO laptop are designed to cope up with harsh and remote conditions. Field testings are also done in countries like Nigeria and Brazil.
