Is it possible to shrink an item of clothing that is 96% cotton and 4% lycra?

Cotton will only shrink in length, but the lycra will get broken down due to the heat. So you should wash it in cold water, and let it air dry if you have that setting on your dryer, or hang it out on the line if you have a clothes line.

I'm sure it's possible, but don't forget that heat breaks down lycra fibres, so while it may shrink, you'll lose the stretch, and you'll probably see tiny "rubber threads" breaking free from the garment.
