OK, I am not into hunting like some of my friends are but I do not object to it entirely. It seems to be a natural way of things. However, I object most strongly about hunting endangered species. Anyway, I am getting off the subject. One day my friend Charlie went hunting around winter time. Of course, us women folk stayed home with the little ones. The guys were gone for hours and then finally they came back with about 5 white tail bucks. It was amzing. Then my friend Charlie brought his kill inside and I will be damned if he didn't paint the deers nose red. He looked at his little cousin and said, "Look, I shot Rudolph!" I have never seen a child cry so hard in my life. He just started laughing along with every other guys. Needless to say none of those guys got any from their women that night. It was the cruelest thing I had ever seen. Then to make matters worse, he pulled the same trick with a rabbit. He painted it pink and told the same little cousin he shot the Easter bunny. I have not talked to him since. I thought it was cruel. While I can see some humor in it, I think it is not something to show a child. What do you think?

Oh I have to agree! In the eyes of any child who was watching the scene it was destroying a myth for them Just the same as when, after years of believing in the existance of Santa Claus, they realise it's all made up - so sad. Sometimes adults should count to 10 and put themselves in their kid's shoes before saying certain things or acting in a certain manner. I would not have liked to be that child who had to witness that at all!

What? Santa Claus isn't real? *cries* Just kidding. Anyway, that is pretty much exactly what I said to Charlie before I left but he just couldn't see past the 'it was just a joke' thing. Needless to say, this child's parents were never inclined to accept an invitation from that home again. The little boy is fine now. They were able to convince him that both these myths were magical and could not be so easily destroyed. While, this little boy is better now, I can't help but wonder who else has pulled such a stunt with a child. How can people be so inconsiderate? Any child has the right to believe in this fantasies and have these beautiful dreams. I believe it makes them stronger not weak. It is a natural process of growing up. Livy

Actually, he has really great parents who took this problem by the root and dealt with it quickly. I think he will be alright. Livy J

Any child has the right to believe in this fantasies and have these beautiful dreams. I believe it makes them stronger not weak. It is a natural process of growing up. Just like tears should be allowed to flow. I hear some parents telling their sone that 'boys don't cry' and I feel it is wrong to suggest that too. Good to know that the child concerned has parents who will guide him positively through this experience!
