Anyone heard the Jim Dale audio book?

My husband and I just finished listening to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows read by Jim Dale. We've enjoyed all the Jim Dale productions, but I think this is his best. Somehow he puts more into this one, especially the Voldemort voice. If you haven't heard it, you should! And for those of you who have, what do you think of it?

Hi lucy, I used to love to listen to audio books when I did a lot of cross country driving. I used to belong to a club where you paid a monthly service to down load them to some kind of mp 3 player. I have read, probably more books than 99 percent of the people on mylaugh or in the world for that matter. I have over 3000 hard backs in my personal library. In the last few years I seemed to have lost interest in reading. It got to where one third of the way through the book I seem to know what the rest of it was going to say. Maybe audio books might be the answer, I can always put them on fast forward. On the issue of getting teste, leave others alone and do it with me I love it, A lot of hostility headed my way causes my dingle berries to blossom. When the aliens abducted me, they fitted me with a hi tech anal probe that vibrates me into orgasams when some body screws with me. I actually do puckerstring back flips when I run into an advanced case of humorless tunnel vision. Have a good day and may your vent fan never fail. May the god of your choice bless you.

I used to enjoy reading more than anything! But my vision has worsened a lot in the past few years, and now I can barely see enough to read. I'm getting used to it, but I do miss reading. I've been forced to use all audio books, whether I like it or not. (My apologies for my first comment! There was no excuse for it. I guess it just rubbed me the wrong way. I hope you will all forgive me.) Thanks for the responses.

I completelly agree with mummymo. She has made some good points. These are well-respected people that you have talked down to, and in doing so, you have created a lot of hatred. I am sure your 'star' rating just went down. Oh,yeah, you don't even have a star, my mistake. I say, think before you speak next time.

lucey while I think it is good that you apologise here I really feel it would seem more genuine if you posted it somewhere more relevant! You also owe an apology to another very well liked and imaginative user who you were very rude to the other day! I have to say to you that I have never in 6 months seen a new user who has no star after 100 posts and have such a low rating - in fact I have never seen anyone with such a low rating! I don't know why you have been so rude at least twice but I would suggest you try and apologise to both these people! Both Jimbo and Alfie are wonderful people who have many friends who love them because of their posts, responses and wonderful personalities! I would definitely say that you owe at least two apologies and then perhaps you should think before you hit the submit button! xxx

I don't support the use of books that are read to people. That is for the blind. The blind cannot read so it is beneficial for them. I do believe that this is a form of laziness.

Yes, audio books are great for people who are blind, visually impaired, or dyslexic. I think others should read the book themselves, but for those who can't, it's good audio books like this, that are read well, are available to them. Otherwise they might not be able to keep up with current reading trends.

Lucyem, Why would anyone blind, visually impared or dislecsic be on this forum? I mean, this is a READING forum. I agree, this would be a good suggestion for those listed above, but not here, when all of us can obviously read.

I know a lot of folks who dig audio books, but I'm not one of them. I like to curl up with a good book and read the normal way. I've tried to listen to audio books in the car before, and I always drift off into neverland and lose my place in the audio. Kudos to you for having the concentration to listen to those things from beginning to end.

Well you should get ready to jump on me as well, cause I was fixing to ask you what's the deal with having a book read to you? I encourage my children to read for themselves that way they pull their own meaning and conclusion from the book. I find it rather odd to suggest an audio book on a forum where, apparently the blind can't participate. I don’t think I am being rude nor Jimbo, by sharing our opinions, even if it’s different than yours. BTW why don’t you have a star? I have never seen anyone above a 100 without one.

I am not a Harry Potter fan but my husband is. He got the CD set and i had to listen to it, because both our computers are in the same room. (If you know how terrible my responses were, you will know why.) I cannot concentrate on writing and listening at the same time. It is the same as the others, but I do not like wizards and witches made to look all so sympathetic. I really hate when they are made to sound like ordinary folks. Look people, there are wizards and witches, sorcerers, necromancers, changlings, werewolves, demons. Harry Potter is just as bad as Voldemort. Jim Dale may be good at imitating voices, but Harry Potter is not a book or cd I would recommend. By the way, I can listen to an audio book like Louis Lamour and I can also read it, but if I do, the room had better have good enough light. I need glasses if the print is too small.

First the Harry Potter story is pretend, fantasy the same as witches, warlocks, wizards and so on.How do you figure that Harry is as bad as Voldemort? When Harry is the good and Voldemort is the evil.

I don't understand the logic of hearing a book. Why do you want others to hear? Book is to be read.

Iam a partially handicapped widow.Audio books help me if Iam trying to do something around the house.I can't hold a book with nerve damage in my arm, read and get things done.My cousin, that I was named after and very close to,had lost most of her sight by the time she was 40 and she would listen to book.I have the bible on tape so I can walk around and listen to scriptures while Iam doing housework.

Although im sure its not directly on topic, so therefore i may be open to abuse, but i think audio books are a great idea. They open up a whole world of reading to those of us who find the tyranny of literacy too oppresive. I find the obsession with reading that some conservatives have a little tiresome, maybe one day we will be free of its chains. I speak as one who spent her childhood in terror of the litterati, i was an undiagnosed dyslexic and went through the terrrors that only an education system obsessed with literacy can bestow. With all the above in mind, although Harry Potter is not on my list of reading material, I think audio books are a great idea blessed be

Eskarena, You did not go off topic really, not to bash someone or something. My youngest son is partially dyslexic as his father is full dyslexic. His dad is 43 and still cannot read. The school's did not discover it till he was almost 16.What were they doing????? And by that time they figured out what his problem was he was going to live with his dad far away from here. And it did not happen he quit school when he got there because they offered him no help there. He has been discoureged ever since on learning. My son they helped him in elementery school, but after that they didn't and this is supposed to be one of the best school district's in the country! He never finished school. He quit during 9th grade. He is 23 and does not read a book, but fill's out form's that his tow truck job requires. He still ask's me sometimes how to spell something.

Wow, Eskarena1, I'm so sorry you had to suffer like that without any help! Reading really is the cornerstone of a civilized society, and it is awful that children who have dyslexia and other barriers to learning don't get the help they need to overcome them. May I also say, it certainly doesn't hinder your writing now! I've never been into audiobooks, I enjoy the whole snuggling-up-in-a-corner-with-a-good-book experience too much to forgo it. I imagine the person who reads it would have a tremendous impact on the enjoyability of the experience. I've seen audiobooks that were recorded by some of my favorite actors, and been tempted to try them. Lucy, sorry for the fading of your vision, I hope they invent something to help with it soon. Geez, I thought I started a tempest in a teapot when I was new here! Good luck, and remember to preview before you post. Sometimes, that helps me to avoid wording that is upsetting to others.

If that is the same audio book that they sell at the stores when the book was relased? If so this woman I became friends with in the waiting line for our number to get our books that night loves them. She said that the narriator had a different voice for each character. When I can afford it I think I will get one.

Lucy, I'm a bit dismayed that you had the entire first post deleted. When people disagree with me, I will fight or ignore, but I don't resort to such tactics. i actully did a discussion on that. I hate that mylot will delete a discussion based on the opinion of one and I hate that a person can stoop so low. Delete me if you want, but if you don't want folks to disagree with you, don't post.

I think tat everyone has their right to their opinion and it should not be deleted as long as it's a real opinion pertaining to the discussions topic or question.

Iam sorry that that happened to you. That is not fair you are entitled to your opinion.Like I said everyone is.I think the one's that should be deleted are the ones who enter a discussion and saying something that does not pertain to the question that is opening the discussion.I don't think anyone should start a discussion, that is not prepared to fight for their belief or opinion.Just deleting it does not solve the issue, that is cowardly in my opinion.

It seems that if you report a discussion or a post, it will be deleted. i would never do that, even if someone disagrees with me; even if they are stupid about it. Not everyone has such ethics. I'm certain my response won't be here tommorow.

i dont see the reason why a lot of people are responding that you shouldnt have posted a discussion about audio books, so what if all people in this forum can read? that its better to read than to listen to a storyteller? the point of such discussion is not to let us know what we will and wont do, but what me might be interested in, like trying to listen to audiobooks, it would be the same is lying in bed while your parents are reading you stories from once upon a time, aint it? now i wonder where i could get one of those audiobooks... that would be really helpful when im in a car and reading is really not a good thing to do. n_n

Well, I don't do audio books because for one thing I have a hearing disability and for another I can read faster. As for Miss Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, better learn some manners or you are going to have a very rough time here. No one was rude to you until you responded rudely so I would suggest you learn the definition of rude and before you answer someone like that again sit on your hands for a few minutes, but be careful not to scratch your face.

I can't scratch my face because I see badly enough that it needs to be practically one with the screen anymore. But thanks for the warning LOL! I did apologize for that comment, and I meant it too.
