How can I get my puppy to stop

pooping on my carpet. My puppy is about 8 months old now and pees outside just fine but will not poop outside, he continues to poop on the carpet in my kids room (that is the only room he will do it in), I will close their door and he will hold it. How can I get him to poop outside?
