no its not gone for ever! when a file is deleted from the recycle bin the only thing that happens is that, the computer looses the address of the file, but the acutall data of the file remains in the harddisk until it is overwritten by some other data. After deleting a file the computer will not know of its address in the harddisk so as far as computer is concerned it dosent know about that file any more. The deleted files if not overwritten can be recovered from the harddisk using datarecover softwares.

I find this to be the most accurate answer. When you delete a file from the Recycle Bin, its entry is erased from the index. The binary data is still there, and can be recovered with an undelete utility, until overwritten by new data.

Whenever you delete something from your recycle bin it is only logically deleted. If you need to remove it forever from your hard disk, you have to physically delete it. Nowadays, DOS is out of fashion and no one uses DOS anymore. You can use softwares to retrieve the logically deleted data as those softwares use DOS commands in their background pre-written codes and programs.

Ouch!!! DOS IS OUT OF FASHION!!! Maybe true, but it doesn't always follow that nobody uses it anymore. I am one of those ANCIENT people that can't let go of the DOS prompt...hahahaha! In fact I am more comfortable undeleting deleted items from DOS prompt. :)

I guess the files that you delete from your recycle bin still stays somewhere in your hard drive. As long as you did not use the same file name again, there is a chance that you will still recover the deleted file using for example a software like Norton's undelete program.

well the file does not get deleted but gets unlinked from your directory and the space gets allocated as free space which can be overwritten by another file....so u can recover a deleted file if it has not been overwritten by another.

It is gone. There are ways to attempt at retrieving files but every time I have tried, it failed miserably. You can go to download.com and do a search for data recovery. Sorry that is the best that I can do for you since nothing I have ever tried works.
