What Has America Got To Do With Israel?

Now don`t get me wrong!,i am not anti-Israel,but i was aghast to find that America is giving Israel $30 billion over several years for armourments,now considering there is supposed to be an all out endever to create peace between Palestine and Israel,would i be wrong in thinking that this can only fly in the face of all the "genuine" peace makers? Can anyone explain what the point of this donation will accomplish!?
