I use hair conditioner twice in a week after shampooing. Other days I just use a little bit of shampoo and wash. I am still unable to understand how to use conditioner. In some bottles, it says apply from the root to the end then wash off completely. I have read that one should never apply conditioner to the scalp since it weakens the root. Which one to believe? I guess most of you uses conditioner. Please reply with a genuine answer. Thanks

If it is a normal conditioner that you buy in the bottle, you just need to put it all the way through your hair. The purpose of conditioner can be to detangle, but it is always to give a beautiful sheen to the hair. So you want to make sure it is distributed evenly over your hair.

Yes, It really gives a sheen to the hair. But I want to know if it is harmless to apply it on scalp. Will it damage the hair roots? some say that we should not apply it to the roots but only to the hair. Thanks for your reply

It won't damage your roots. Just make sure to put a small amount on the scalp, and more on the more lengthy hairs on your head.

I absolutely love hair. Basically with conditioner you want to put that wonderful stuff into your hair and leave it there until your hair feels the way you want it to feel after conditioning, soft, easy to detangle etc. I don't read to much into the directions on the bottles because some say 10 minutes and I want to leave it in for 20 or 30. I finger part my hair into sections and add the conditioner in there so all of my hair will be covered. I slather it on too.

Lavender, you never want to leave your hair conditioner in your hair for mor then 10 minutes. (Only time you are to have a 15minute conditioner is when you or a salon is doing a conditioner w/choresolare) And conditioner should be applied from the root to the shaft of the hair(roots to ends)you can use a wide tooth comb for even distrabution or a wig brush (a brush w/wide bristles)

I've never heard of conditioner weakening the roots of your hair. I wouldn't have thought it could damage them in any way. However, you if you do apply conditioner up to the roots you need to make sure you rinse it off properly otherwise it will cause a build up on your scalp that will make it itchy and more greasy. Also, never comb conditioner through your hair unless you use one of those special wide-toothed de-tangling combs, becuase you can easily break your hair when wet!

Thank you very much for the suggestion. If we dont rinse the conditioner thoroughtly, then it will surely damage the hair. You are right about cleaning it properly. I use wide toothed comb for detanling.

depending on your hair type, some people have to shampoo every day and some dont.you can also use a leave in conditioner the times that you dont use a regular conditioner.when you apply the conditioner make sure you comb it thru your whole head and yes definately the scalp too.then rinse it,but you can still leave alittle conditioner in your hair,it will not harm or damage your hair.im a hairstylist for over 13 years, but like i said it depends on your hair type,is it course, thin, average?
