I am not feeling well...what nurturing things do you do?

Greetings to all... I wanted to do an update and decided to turn it into a discussion. For some strange reason I have picked up a bronchial infection and between that and the antibiotics I am feeling not feeling well. Whatever energy I do have is going towards my free lance writing work. I am struggling to bring 4 assignments in under deadline and that leaves little time or energy left for fun time Mylotting. I check in, respond to responses and friends requests and sign off. So while making a brief appearance I thought why not let others know what's been going on with me and make a discussion out of it at the same time. I'd love to have some ideas about how all of you nurture and uplift your mood when feeling under the weather. So far I am taking the antibiotics even though I usually try to avoid perscription drugs unless absolutely necessary. Now that is just my perspective...not saying anyone else should do the same. On the more natural side I am drinking hot lemonaide with honey, ginger and cayanne...sitting in a steamy jet tub and sniffing aromatherapy oils to try and keep the nasel passages open. I also meditate in my upstairs sanctuary and take the laptop outside so I can work where it is a little cooler. I am listening to some favorite Celtic music and sleeping more than I usually do. My hubby is nurturing with foot rubs and back massages...so overall I may be feeling cr@!#y... I am feeling nurtured and supported. By not being around as much I realize how much I miss connecting with fellow Mylotters and hope to be sharing discussions with you soon. In the meantime I check in and will always make responding to you my first priority. After than my owl and I will fly by to your site and we'll continue to share our unique perspectives as we always do. Anyway if you care to share what you do to support yourself when feeling unwell I'd love to hear it. Warm regards and so for now...and I will be back.

Hi again, Thankfully the weather is still very warm, but not stifling, suffocatingly hot and humid the way it was last week. I don't have a fever anymore and I am starting to feel better. My energy is still low...but I am getting there. Your thoughts and well wishes are a gift...thank you my friend.

Hey wait a minute dude, did you just said your taking antibiotics? Did you consulted your doctor for that? if not it seems like someone's going to get a spanky hehehe no just playing dude. Well anyway, i am a student nurse and i would just like to inform you, that whenever you are planning to take antibiotics you should consult your doctor first. Because there are many types of antibiotics and each one has a specific function, like it inhibits the multiplication of bacteria while others kill them totally, and if you happen to make a mistake about it, the antibiotic may not help you at all. And if your having a cold and it depends on the color of the mucus (if its colorless, its viral) which means antibiotics wont work. And if its green it means it is bacterial and yes antibiotics will work on that but are you sure if your taking the right one? PLs pls pls dont self medicate, its very dangerous... JUst some some words of advice, its the least that i can do. stay cool dude!!!

Hi...and welcome to Mylot! 23 and counting..hope you enjoy it here and decide to stay. We need well informed individuals to add to discussions. Thank you very much for caring and advising me about receiving proper medical advice...and I agree with you...so no spanky needed!LOL However, I am not sure where you got the idea that I am self-medicating with antibiotics. I am under our local physician's care..including a a chest X-Ray to make sure the infection hasn't progressed too far into the lungs. Thankfully the results are back and I am clear. The first round of meds did not quite clear the infection out...so the second round I am on is the type that stops the bacteria. I am will complete the full regime and add some of the natural rememdies like aciophylis, lemon juice, giger, cayanne, galic etc. to support the body. So thank you for your precautionary concern...and your upbeat approach...it is appreciated.

Sounds like you are doing a very good job at getting better and your hubby giving massages, what more could a woman want. I tend to try and relax as this is the best cure. Boiling ginger to make a tea is my cure for coughs and it is so warming. If I have to take anti-biotics I always take Acidophilus tablets to put back the good bacteria. I must admit I have been feeling a bit odd today, with no real explanation why. Then tonight i looked out the window and there was the full moon staring back at me. I really get affected by a full moon and end up quite crabby for the day. Luckily I do not start howling or growing hair!! Take care and I wish you well:)

Really sorry to hear that you are feeling unwell. Sounds like you are doing and getting lots of nurturing, so you'll be mending quickly. When I'm feeling unwell I like to curl up with a book where it is quiet anc comfy. I like having someone else cook and clean up and a feel-good movie on the DVD player. If my feeling unwell isn't physical, especially, then I like to go to a park, especially one with water, or to get ice cream - chocolate of course.

Well my friend it is too back we don't live closer..you'd be able to have a lot of what you need in our neck of the woods. My hubby is a great nurturer...and a good cook and housecleaner as well. When gal pals come over he treats us all like queens and is happy to put a great meal together while we sit on the swing or lie in the hammock and rest, giggle and chat. Thankfully he has been doing all of that while I am recuperating...and you are right it works! I am starting to feel better already. Ice cream...you and DanaMark are on the right track with that one...nourishes the spirit...and soothes the throat. Thank you for adding your special brand of insight and for expressing your genuine concern.

I noticed you haven't been posting as many new discussions lately. Now I know why. I sure hope you are feeling better soon. It sounds to me like you are doing a lot of good things to keep yourself going. I just try to get extra sleep. I realize that is difficult when you have deadlines to meet. I also eat ice cream. Of course, I eat ice cream all the time, but it seems to make me feel better when I'm not feeling well. At least that's the excuse I use. lol. Get well fast. I miss your thought-provoking discussions.

P.S. I'm amazed how you can turn a report on "not feeling well" into a thought-provoking discussion. Even when you are not feeling well, your "thinker" is sure working.

Hi DanaMark...see..we do have to be careful what we ask for...sometimes we get it. You commented that I make you think so much...and when you least expected it...you got a respite!LOL. I like your ice cream idea...and yes, it is a good excuse, but also very nurturing..and that was what I asked for. I am going to try that and visitorinvasion's popsicles idea. Not too many though I don't want to lose my girlish figure by having too many carbs and being inactive too boot!LOL Just enough to soothe the throat and give the mood a sugar boost! You made me smile when you added your second post about my 'thinker.' My hubby enjoyed your comment too...he said to tell you that he wakes up to the 'massive power hum' of my brain waking him up every morning and it often doesn't shut down to the wee small hours some days. So you nailed that observation my friend...that and your comments lightened my mood...and I appreciate it very much. Hopefully I won't be out of circulation for too long..I not only miss the responses on perspectives...I like to participate in discussions on your site as well and other friends as well. I appreciate you holding good thoughts. In the meantime I do plan to answer responses. I value the connection with you and others in this sharing circle. Until we chat again...take care of yourself I assume your root canal is healing satisfactorily? I hope so.

Hi Perspectives. I'm sorry if this post would be a little too late. I wasn't able to get near a computer for the last few days. My son was hospitalized during those days. Anyway, I hope you've totally recovered and regained your health. And god bless your husband who's very caring of you. When I get sick, everything stops for me. I can't do anything at all. I can't watch TV or even read something. All I do is sleep the day away. And if my sickness demands to be treated by medicines, I take them. I sleep, take medicines and before I forget, my son sometimes gives me a sweet kiss and that helps me feel a lot more better. ^_^

Well any warm comments are welcome and I appreciate that you care enough to add your ideas to the topic. I am sorry to hear about your son being hospitalized...and hope his health is returning. Thankfully I am feeling better. I am still on the antibiotics and coughing up junk...but I can tell by my energy that it won't be long before I'm back to full speed. The fact that you are able to be in touch with what you and your body need when you are sick is commendable. I think if more people could just 'be' with whatever is going on and ride it through they'd heal faster. It took me a long time to reach that point. I used to drive myself when I was sick and often ended up setting myself back farther. Having a loved one give sweet kisses can be very healing and nurturing...and I am glad your sone and you share that special bond.

when i was still living with my parents and brothers, i always get so pampered when sick. they give me a massage until i fall asleep. they cook whatever food i wanna eat and they just let me rest until i get well. now that i am living with my boyfriend, i am glad that i haven't been that really ill that i feel so bad at all. i had some leg pains, foot pains and neck pains. and whenever i tell my boyfriend about it, he immediately gives me a massage. and when feeling bad with headaches, he rushes to the medicine cabinet to get me some medicines to take. he lets me to just lay down on the sofa or bed and won't allow me to do anything. he just asks me to rest. and his touch, care and warm kiss do make me feel better quicker. i believe in TLC... tender loving care. touch therapy really helps. p.s. i hope you feel good soon. anne

Thanks for your well wishes and hopes that I feel good soon...it is nice to hear. I love your insight about tender, loving care...you are right it can go a long way to making a rough ride feel softer. It is good to know you have such a loving, caring partner...you sound very compassionate yourself I am sure you deserve all that he give you. I also feel blessed to have my 'Sweetie' by my side preparing hot water bottles and massaging my sore body. I hope to chat again and once again you words of support are very nurturing too!

Echinachea (sp?) and double up on the Vitamin C. Swab the ears with peroxide whether they ache or not. Sore throat? Gargle lukewarm saltwater to help kill the infection. Honey & lemon in tea. Popscicles. Chicken noodle soup, even if you have to strain the noodles & meat, drink the broth. ...hmmm...uplifting the mood? *thinking* If I'm to sick to sit here and work, I loaf 100% and read a book. Hope you feel better soon. Being sick really bites.

You are so right about the infection and the medication leaving me feeling drained. Your comment about the fluids is a good reminder. I am doing my best to rest and pace myself..and trying to remember to take in enough fluids to counteract the slight fever and hot, humid weather we're having in Southwestern Manitoba. Thank you for dropping by and caring enough to offer your ideas and support. It is much appreciated.

Well sorry I am not going to do much good. You not only covered what I would do, but gave me some wonderful suggestions for when I will be in your spot. LOL I loved the part of listening to the Celtic music. For some goofy reason, when I am sick litening to music never crosses my mind. But I love Celtic music and I know it would do be well to drift off into a dream state while hearing it. Anway I am sorry I have nothing to add, but I do hope you get well soon and I look forward to your return.

Well you know what sunshine? Just the fact that you dropped by and 'beamed your warm words in my direction is enough of an addition to brighten my day. Thanks for that...I look forward to coming back and participating in disucssions with you here and on your home base. Good to know you like Celtic music too. Who are are some of your favorites? I love Enya, Clinnad, Lisa Lynne's Daughters of the Celtic Moon and Aine Minogue...Between the Worlds to name a few. Enigma is not truly Celtic..but does have some Celtic overlays and to me strikes some intense spiritual chords when I listen to their unique blends. Anyway I am only here to respond to all of you who dropped by and offered your support. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll be back to posting discussions and flying around on my owl to share perspectives with others on their sites. Take care of yourself...and keep on beaming you do it so well!LOL

These days... if I am sick... I stop everything. Lots of sleep is the best remedy. If you are not sleepy... watch a DVD or two... until you are sleepy. Or read a book. I have learnt with experience that fighting against sickness by ignoring it and keeping working prolongs the illness by three or more times longer. Same thing with an hangover. Do not get out of bed until you slept it off... and you will never have an hangover. By the way... that won't work for those who are drinking until they pass out. lol

Hi Aussies2007... You have no idea how much I appreciated your reminder of NOT FIGHTING AGAINST THE ILLNESS! By nature I can be quite driven at times (although I am less Type A than I used to be.) After reading your very wise suggestion I am going to make a concentrated effort to work with the infection and let it run its course. I know from past experience how right you are about prolonging it if I don't. However...had you not drawn attention to it...well..the outcome might be different. I have been sleeping longer and later...but as you said...whatever it takes. Thanks for caring enough to add your wonderful Aussie Perspectives again!

Yuk--I know how lousy anti-biotics can make a person feel...I hate taking them but that's just about the only time I do take meds....I sometimes have bouts of bronchitis so know how you may be feeling there...its that what it is by the way? I tend to keep going when I'm sick though,,..I just might slow down a bit more...I find that if I keep as active as possible I don't feel so bad...but then that might be the over-achiever in me..LOL--I usually like to make some nice homemade chicken soup--the miracle cure....there really isn't anything to make any kind of cold, flu, or bronchial infection go away any quicker, one just has to wait it out and let it run it's course.---Since I like drinking herbal teas, especially mint, I find that helps a bit, and drinking some tea with lemon and honey and a bit of brandy helps if one drinks it before bedtime, at least it does help me sleep---Yes ginger it very good for bronchial problems..I sometimes grate it up and make a tea out of that Hope you feel better soon!! Take garlic pills if possible..its nature's anti-biotic

Hi again Pyewacket Thanks for your excellent suggestions. I will add some of them to the mix because I am determined to overcome this A.S.A.P. I sense that it is a major clearing/cleansing of some sort although I have not had as much time in the sanctuary as I intend to once my work is caught up. Everything happens for a reason...so I will ride this out and in ususal fashion the hindsight will be 20-20. But for now I am too stuffed up in the sinuses to 'see' any underlying messages.LOL Anyway your well wishes and encouragement are appreciated!
