how the air is cooled?

the air is cooled in two ways.one is by rising.the higher you go,the colder it gets,at least for the first 7 miles (11 kilometers) or so.for every 300 feet (92 meters) of altitude, the temperature drops 1 fahrenheit degree (1.8 celcius degree).so when the tempature on the ground at the sea level is 80 f (27 c ),it will be about 63f (17c) at an altitude of 5000 feet (1,500 meters).when air near the ground is heater,it expands and becomes lighter that the colder air around it.because it is lighter, the heavier surrounding air forces it to rise.as the warm air rises onto the colder regions of the atmosphere,it cools.this type o9f cooling is called adiabatic cooling.during the cooling process something happens to the parcel of air it "loses"some of its water vapor.this happens because cool air cannot hold as much water vapor as warm air.
