Movies that never lose their appeal, that have been remade and are still being

remade because the stories are still funny today as they once were, or because they are still relevant, or just such great stories that they can be remade to fit the times. Vivienna had posted about old movies and it got me to thinking and a while back I think it was emeraldisle who posted about movie remakes, so what movie remakes can you think of that still work, there are many that don't, but work, or maybe even better than the original. Example Back Street 1932 with Irene Dunne Back Street 1941 with Margaret Sullivan Back Street 1961 with Susan Hayward The best version was the Susan Hayward version. Front Page 1931 with Pat O'Brien His Girl Friday 1940 with Cary Grant Front Page 1974 with Jack Lemon Switching Channels 1988 with Kathleen Turner While the name of the movie was changed when the character of Hildy Johnson was played by a woman the movie was the same. But in this case the 1940 and 1974 versions were the best.

Beau Gueste (sp) was remade at least three times. Silent, B & W, and Color. I heard once it was considered the most ripped off movie of all time.

There seems to be only a few movie themes and the rest are just copies, same idea told in different ways. Hence the reason people think Beau Geste is one of the most ripped off movies. Though the Three Musketeers might one of the most remade movies ever, made in 1916, 1931, 1933, 1935, 1939, 1948, 1950, 1954, 1960, 1969, 1973, 1986, 1993

Excellent way to bring up an oldie but goodie that never gets old. I wonder what the most remade movie of all time is?

Thats a great question, now yuo have me curious as to which is the most remade movie of all time, I mean we know Front Page was done 4 times, but what others are there? Backstreet was done 3 times, and then there are those movies that don't have the same title or we are not aware of how they may have been remade. I don't know if you are familiar with an old movie with Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper Ball Of Fire 1941, but it was remade with some variations with Danny Kaye and Virginia Mayo called A Song Is Born 1948. Both good movies and the differences didn't take away from it being the same story. I suppose I watch to many old movies, to have noticed these.
