How do you get points?

Hello, I am not so much concerned about the money, but I notice a lot of people that have over 500 points next to their name. I only have 34 and I worked hard for it. What are those points? Are they how many friends you have? How do I get to the 500 quickly? What do you have to do to get those points?
I am kind of lost.

The point next to your name donates the number of responses your have written.To get 1000 points next to your name you would have to post 1000 responses to the available discussions on mylot.It is very hard to reach 1000 responses here at mylot but you can still reach it if you work hard on mylot.
