This is for all the parents out there. There is alot of controversy out there about when it is the right age to start giving your babies food (cereal, baby food, etc). Medical professionals are now saying to avoid giving your baby anything but a bottle until they are 6 months old to avoid possible food allergies. However, I know some people who start their babies off with cereal as young as2.5 months. My sons doctor told me to do cereal at 3 months. It's all very confusing. What do you believe is the best age to give your baby cereal??

My sons pedi told me i could start him at 4-6 months. I tried him with rice cereal but it just made him constipated at 4 months, so we stopped. He just turned 5 months and has just started baby food, only veggies tho.

I heard that the best time to give your baby food was between 5 and 8 months.. but I would go to your doctore and ask him/her first.. it depends with all babies.

Most babies start cereal around 4 months of age and fruits and veggies at 6 months. Some babies start earlier based on the dr outweighing risks vs benefits. I plan on not starting my son on solids (including cereal) until 6 months of age unless his pedi recommends them before that.

Gosh, it seems so long ago, but to best of my recollection: On my first child, I did it by the book. Didn't start any solids until about 6 months. The second child got her fisrt taste of mashed potatos around 4 months. I think I started giving her cereal around 4 months too. #3...Can't remember too much, but I think I started cereal around 3 months and other baby food around 5 or 6 months. Of course at this point I couldn't keep the baby fruits stocked up because the other two were eating them faster than I could I feed them to the baby. And the last one...well, he came out practically eating anything. By that time he got what was put in front of him. I think when we would be eating we we smash up our food and feed him. He didn't get hardly any "real" baby food. Of course he was the best baby I had too!! Went to sleep without any problems, entertained himself, hardly cried. :D I say all of this to make the point that I would do what the doctor says, but don't be afraid to let him try something if you feel the need to sneak him a bite or two!!
