Last Friday I saw Dweezil play Frank's tunes for three hours, it was mesmerizing. I spoke to a buddy of mine later, who was also at the show, and he brought me down by calling them a "glorified cover band". I thought about it and felt I'd been stupid to be so jazzed about it, then got angry and decided it was a great time anyway. Anyone got thoughts on this?

Yea, I gotta thought. You tell your ignorant buddy to go get whacked with a smart stick before saying such stupid crap. Zappa is Zappa, you can't get much more real than that. ALSO, most of the people playing in that show used to play with Frank back in the day. When a son can play his father's music LIKE HIS FATHER PLAYED IT, it's as close to original as you can get. ESPECIALLY with former bandmates. "Glorified cover band", where your idiot friend got that from I'd like to know. Evidently he knows nothing about Zappa, either one of them. (I'll stop because now I'm pi**ed at your ignorant friend.)

I agree. I went to see ZPZ in London few weeks ago. It's so much more than a glorified covers band. I honestly don't think anyone could have executed it as well as Dweezil. Watching the show it was apparent that only someone with such a vastly intimate knowledge of all of Frank's back catalog and the man himself could pull this off.

I was gutted, i missed the shows in England as i was out of the country, i really wanted to see it as well! What Zappa material did they do? Did they play much from Hot Rats? I suppose Dweezil had such a wealth of material to choose from he was spoilt for choice. I would have loved to see Inca Roads performed live though.

I've brought the fool around to my way of thinking. Unfortunately, there was no Inca live at my show. They did play What's New In Baltimore and Zoot Allures... man, I'm there next time. If my buddy tries downtalking it again I'll kick him in his aged balls.
