We are all prejudice and don't even realize it...

I was watching Oprah a while back and they were discussing the movie "Crash" and made a valid point. Are you the person when you see a male of a different race, large and tall or built, do you cling to your purse a little tighter, or move over a little quicker. Or maybe if you see someone wearing certain clothing, you have a sudden fear. There are many more questions to go along with this subject. When I watched the movie myself and even bought it. I love it. I think that we aren't racist but are prejuding people just by how the look or walk. What do you think? If you have done this and are not afraid to share I would like to hear from you. Or even if you have some thoughts of this, please share.

I don't have a fear of different races, but I will admit that I tend to be afraid of males I don't know, because of past experiences. I've never noticed that it made any difference what race a person was how I reacted to them, just the fact that someone is male is usually enough to make me feel less safe, unless I know them or am with other people.

I totally agree with you. I have heard so many stories about different men doing horrible things to young women and little girl and even boys. I have a fear of meeting someone new because I have children and want them to be safe. But how would you feel if someone you thought you knew, abused your children or yourself? Scary thought, I know. That's why I choose to protect my children and myself. ++ +

That's why I said "because of past experiences" because I was abused, and have been sexually assaulted before. I am VERY protective of my child as well. He's over one year old and he's only been babysat like once, and my husband and I work opposite work schedules so that we don't have to have daycare.

I don't think this sort of thing is just about race any more or even gender, you have to be careful of everybody, when I go for walks I watch everyone, I carry a pepper bomb with me as it has been very common for people to be attacked my kids, women, young girls, and it is not just any one race of people, I think youth is even a little more to blame these days, but they are not the only ones either, so no I say it is not just racial.

We all have a fear of something or someone. I think that protecting yourself is a good idea. I believe that our own race attracts more incidents. It's sad that it is like this but I am glad there are people like you who aren't afrait to protect themselves.

I hate any form of discrimination but I have to be realistic about this: stereotyping is definitely inevitable. It has a lot to do with our upbringing; when we see someone in tattered clothing we jump to the conclusion that they can't afford something better (which is not always the case), when we see a rather feminine looking guy we jump to the conclusion he's not straight (which is not always the case). But in some cases stereotyping isn't always a bad thing: if we were to see a suspicious-looking person at an alley in the middle of the night, it's far better to be safe than sorry.

dear laydlexious, No human being on the earth live without prejudice and racist feeling. It is one way good for the growth of economy and the community on the whole. It also creates competitiveness and jealous feeling among the members of the particular community which forces them do many thing good or bad. Generally they work to achieve one good goal for the welfare of people belonging to their community. I feel it is better to have racist and prejudice feeling and it should not be turned to harm to another racist people. Of course, this is happening and a particular racist/prejudice people should be educated to follow the good path.

i think people tend to judge without even realizing it, sometimes its an automatic even, no matter how much we try to think that we do not form first impressions by what we see. it is a fact that we do. and i think thiking a certain way about someone based on the way they are dressed can be helpful at times
