Making fun of myself

Ok, now I'll admit, I have a bit of an Obsessive Compulsive problem. I collect combs, literally by the 100's, and I have trouble buying just one color of something, and I do have too many cats, only because, they had no homes, and needed a place to be, and by gosh, I love them, each and every one. Now, my husband thinks I went completely off my rocker, becasue I name my buckets. Yep, I've been naming my buckets, in bold, black, permanent marker. Ok, yes, that sounds wierd, I will admit, but I didn't name them, because of any mental illness, at least not on my part. I named them, because my stuff, always manages to walk down to his mom's house, and become hers. This is my way of saying, "ok, old lady, if you take it, you won't be able to lie about where you got it from." She's done this stuff for years, and I'm tired of it. I honestly think she's a kleptomaniac! So, if she takes my "Brenda's beautiful burgandy bucket, or my Brenda's wonderful white bucket, or my Brenda's gracious gray bucket, thye'll always be mine, and I can prove it. They have my name on them. Anybody else ever have to do this, just to keep your stuff?

I've never had to go to the extreme of labeling things with my name on them, but when my mom was still alive I did have to hid a lot of my things in the deep reaches of my closet so she wouldn't grab at them---I would hide any bottles of colognes or perfumes since I didn't want her to use them...now I'm not stingy..I wouldn't have minded her asking to "borrow" or use something if only she had asked, and there's a story to this...hehe Years and years and years ago..(maybe I should start..once upon a time)..this was when I was selling a lot of my photo work for publication...I had just done a "big" sale and decided to splurge on myself a bit and got a rather large bottle of Opium perfume..my favorite..it was kind of a weird shaped bottle and you couldn't really pour it out without it spilling all over the place, so I kept a medicine type dropper near by to take the perfume out that way..I even had explained this to my mother...Well one day, I wake up...I used to get up real late then and my mom had already had left for work...the apartment reeked of the perfume...so I look at the bottle...Now you have to understand I had only gotten the perfume so it should have been nearly full...nope...it was almost all gone! She had spilled it all over the place...what REALLY ticked me off was that she didn't offer to buy a new bottle for me--gee how nice...So after that, I literally would hide and shove things in my closet that I didn't want my mother to get her hands at--this could include my make-up, and don't laugh...boxes of cookies, candies...I rarely eat sweets but now and then will have a cookie/candy attack..but my mom had a fierce sweet tooth and could go through cookies and candies in one swoop..then wonder why she got sick afterwards

"Mommy tax". lol That's a good one. Wish I'd have thought of it, when my kids were small. My youngest is 25, wonder if it would still work?

That's definitely proof as to why we are good friends. I have to put funny names on my brushes, makeup, and even my hair styling products because my daughter loves snagging my stuff and taking it into her room. So now, like you, I can prove to her that it's "mine....all mine"! LOL As for the cats, there's nothing obsessive or compulsive about having them....we both just have the words "kitties come to me" on our foreheads, but we're the only ones that can't see them. Hahahaha

LoL, I believe that's true. I'm pretty sure, that not only, the kitties see that on our foreheads, but the people can read it too. They always know that if I hear a sob story, the kitty will be mine. lol If I had all the money that I've spent on cat and dog food, toys, and vets, and pet medicine, I could retire tomorrow. lol

Same here hon. I honestly think my kitties waited until I was asleep one night, and tattooed "sucker" under the other words that I can't see. LOL

That's so funny. I always thought cats were smart. Maybe they're even smarter than I think. lol

I have a friend who puts his name on everything he owns because people pinch things. He even put his name on a 30 metre hose at every metre! He labels things for me too...watering cans have my name on them. He even has a white marking pen to label dark coloured things...lol. Nothing wrong with you sweety...you're just protecting what's yours....love the sound of you buckets...you'll have to get a blue one and call it Brenda's bodaciously, bold, blue bucket... WooHoo.

I think this is very funny and you definitely brought a smile on my face. I love to read little snipets into my lovely friends' characters and I really thank you for sharing this little story with us. I don't have any thing so exciting to tell. I am boring at the moment lol because I don't own much as I am a bit of a Gypsy at the moment lol.

hi brendle boop! ^__^ I completely understand what you're going thru. I don't have a mother-in-law though. but I'm the kind of person who gets easily pissed when someone gets into my things, used it and then don't return it, WITHOUT my permission! when I get home and see something missing, I immediately go berserk. and storm down the stairs and demand to all people in the house to give my things back. and then i'll start cursing and dropping bombs on the floor (heavy banging footsteps) and then i'll shout at my nieces and nephew to always remember that its forbidden to use my things even just to touch it, its forbidden! my mother would tell me I'm overreacting but that's how I am! and its their mistake not mine. and its not only that, I hate it when they (except my mother) go upstairs and watch tv and thrash th place. I really hate it. we have a tv downstairs and I have told them they're banned upstairs! why can't they be told just once?? this is the reason when sometimes I go home with a nice mood and then all of a sudden I get hotheaded. so what I do is HIDE all my stuff so no one can see and use it. some of them I put in my cabinet which I always lock before I get out of the house. its not being dingledorf or mental, we're just taking care of our things! we love our things, we use them, we take care of them. nothing is wrong with that. ^__^

I know, I hate it when people takes my stuff, and since I've lived here, she's taken everything imaginable, from food to jewelry. But if I went to house and picked up a penny off the floor, she'd call me a thief. lol

I'm thrilled that you call me by my old nickname. I guess I've kind of missed it. lol

Well, you definatly have a valid reason for doing these things... the naming buckets that is. As for collecting combs... Are they the fancy or ornamental type of hair comb, or just run-of-the-mill brush-your-hair type of comb? And how many cats do you have. I tend to be a bit compulsive in that area too.

Ok, you definatly have me beat on kitties. If I lived out somewhere where I had more room, I may have more. But then again, there isn't enough of me to go around and I lie to give everyone as much love and affection as I can. I feel stretched too thin with the ones I have right now. I have 17, but 9 of them are two litters of kittens from homeless moms that I took in so their babies won't be wild. I'm ready to find homes for them all and the two moms so I can get back to a normal household. The second litter is only 2 weeks old, so we have a bit longer. I also take care of a feral cat population, and I'm not sure how many there are. Want another kitty?

OMG--- thanks for the laugh- I'm laughing with you I hope- Nope I've never named my buckets- or really anything like this- I will put my name on come dishes if they are going to a picnic or big cookout- or my daughters things- like her backpack and softball glove and hat- but only so it doesn't get mistaken for someone elses. But if my mom-in-law took my stuff and kept it- I'd put my name on it too!

Well - no - I don't have to do that Brenda - but I fully understand your frustration, and if I was in your position, I would probably do it too! As for the cat - believe me, there is no such thing as too many cats! Since my visiting stray has now decided to move in with us permanently, I have 6 cats again - each one as loved and precious as the next. It doesn't mean you have OCD to "collect" cats - it just means you are a good, ind and decent person:-))

awww, thank you. It's so nice to have someone understand me. It's always nice when I hear about someone taking in a stray. I feel so sad for the ones that I can't help.

I used to have that problem with our vast collection of video tapes. We used to live in a mobile home park where e1 borrowed other ppls stuff. I had no problem with that cept my video tapes were slowly disappearing and couldn't figure out why. Come to find out, ppl that borrowed our movies weren't returning them in a few days like they were suppose to. Since I couldn't mentally keep track of where all our movies were going, I ended up putting our address labels on them all and keeping a notebook on who has what and when they said they would return it. Had no problems after that and still loan stuff out to this day. We did end up getting a call from the local video rental store asking if I wanted my movies back. lol A few ppl were returning movies and weren't paying attention to how many they were actually renting so mine would go back with the others.

why not help little children who are poor ? maybe that will help your soul to feel better and fun its 1000% better then to do things only for you because the poor children will think the world is so bad to them and they`ll fight against world!
