I just read an article about an 85 year old woman who ran into a school cafeteria and killed a child and injured two others. It was unintentional. She was fined $500.00, pled guilty and gave up her licence. She claimed she paniced while trying to make a u-turn and the car "went crazy". I thought perhaps ppl should have to take the standard drivers test whenever they renew their drivers licence?? My Grandmother is in 70's, has had a stroke and cannot walk or stand by herself...yet she has a valid drivers licence!! What do you think?? LIVE IN PEACE

In India, the elderly persons above 55 years should take a test once on 5 years and if they pass the test, the licence is removed. This is after examining the doctor's certificate. I have no idea what happens if they are involved in accident whether retest has to be taken?

I don't think if they did this here in the US it should be only the elderly. I think anyone who has a license should have to re-do the road test when they renew. It only takes a couple minutes, they can obviously do it since they drive and it would weed out the bad drivers and ppl who have no business driving. LIVE IN PEACE

Yes, You are absolutely right. The laws over there are very stringent compared to developing nations.

I would hate to have to take the driving test over myself, but safety is important. Perhaps some kind of additional screening should be required. My mom had a valid drivers license even though she was legally blind for awhile. And would you believe, there is an elderly man who lives down the road from me who's had so many DUI's they've taken away his driving privileges permanently, but he has a pilot's license, and can fly his own plane, which he keeps in a building on his property.

I heard he's a nice guy who will take people for a ride in the plane, but I'd be afraid to go. It's so crazy that he has a pilot's license.

I agree that people should have to rsit a driving test say when they renew there licence it would help keep people obaying the rules a little better, as most people think whoopty do I got my lincence now I can do what ever they want and most of the safety rules go out the window eventually..... Elderly people start to have problems with sight etc and that can interfear with their driving capabilities....

I agree...I think whenever you renew your licence you should have to take the test again. It would help cut down on the ppl who shouldn't be driving anymore. AT PEACE WITHIN

I totally agree!! You should definitely have to take a driving test like every 10 years or so. My dad is 57, so I think it should definitely be at an older age than that because he's perfectly fine to drive, he drives to work everyday just fine....but my grandfather is in his late 60's and I would NEVER ride with him!!

After seeing people driving in my city I think there should be a standard driving test every 4 years, not just for the elderly. Sometimes I think I need to take drivers ed again.
