How did Grindelwald become master of the Elder Wand if he only stole it from Gregorovich? If he is not the true master then it follows that Dumbledore, Draco, and Harry never really became the true owner of the Elder Wand... any insight please

Perhaps Grindelwald was never master of the Elder Wand; however, Dumbledore winning it might make a new master/true owner. OR, Grindelwald didn't just *steal* the wand.

That might make sense since the Elder Wand was suppose to be unbeatable and it is common knowledge that Dumbledore was able to defeat Grindelwald....

There was a portion on the last book about wandlore and basically, what it taught Harry was that the wand chooses his master. So perhaps, that's how Grindelwald became the master of the Elder Wand since it was not stated in the book that Gregorovich actually used the wand. From this, of course, we can presume that since the wand has not been used for a long time, it could actually be waiting to choose it's new master. As for Dumbledore, he acquired the wand fair and square by defeating Grindelwald and from that we can assume that Dumbledore did own the Elder Wand... I just don't know how Malfoy came to be the master of the wand when no duel transpired between him and Dumbledore...

Draco took the wand from Dumbledore on the tower near the end of the sixth book just before Snape killed Albus.

It was extremely complaex but Grindelwald stole the wand, now it never said you HAD to beat the opponent to get the power of it, so by stealing it he then had rights over the wand, but obviously not completely. When Dumbledore defeated him in battle he became the full owner of the wand because he had taken the wand in battle against grindelwald and was capable of using the wand to its full extent. Now here is the confusing part Draco was supposed to kill dumbledore, that part of history seemed to be set and for sure, and due to the rules governing wandlore he techniqualy was to be the new master, though snape stepped in last minute, because snape did not clame the wand the rights lied with draco, and because harry disarmed and defeated draco in battle harry became the new owner very complex very confusing But I hope it answered your question

No need - the definite answer is in the books. Even Voldemort didn't have full power of the Elder Wand because he just picked it out of Albus' tomb.

This is really a complex question... i wonder how i can ask Ms J.K. Rowling since she is the only one who can give the definite answer.

Actually this is a fantastic question !~ Although JKR has come out and answered most of the unconvincing parts , she hasnt yet explained about the difference between What voldemort did in dumby/s tomb and what grindewald did with gregorowich ! But however , i found this ! We know volde dint kill ollivander ! Why ? cos he said the truth and whats the point in killing him ? if he doesnt know why harry's wand was better than malfoy's ! But then , He killed gregorovich ? WHy ? I think , it was because , gregorovich lied ! he lied that it was stolen ! There wasnt any concrete proof that he said the truth !! We know voldy hung him upside down and used cruciatus and all that ! but then once volde comes to know that gregorovich is lying , he used legilimens and found the *supposedly* theif's picture and went after him . It also gives me an idea that maybe , gregorovich was ashamed of himself ! for letting go of the elderwand and helping a darkwizard in the shape of grindelwald come into the world !

That is a good thought... maybe J.K. Rowling will have a page or two on this elder wand in the Harry Potter encyclopedia that she said she will write...
