I Need Help To Make A Decision, Please, Guys!: )

You were all very helpful when I told you that I'd decided to put on a Treasure Hunt for my main fundraising event this year.
Well, everything's settled with the Pub Landlords, who will be putting on a barbecue in the evening, and there may be a quiz that evening as well.
Naturally, I've been thinking about what I can use as a theme, and I've decided to make it an historic theme. Since there's a lot of history of Saxon Settlements and landmarks, iron foundries and hammer ponds, legends and mills around here, I thought I would incorporate all of those in the clues. However, I have had two ideas for the treasure, and it's here I would like your help... maybe by vote, as to which you think is the better idea, if you wouldn't mind lending your expertise.
Firstly, I gave thought to a Quest for the "Lost Bolney Grail", using a rosebowl base, and attaching jewels like the Holy Grail, with the prize, on paper, inside. I thought this might be quite in keeping with the era being used.
Secondly, I thought a small wooden chest, with brass decoration, and maybe a few trinkets in it, together with the prize, again written on paper, inside.
Do you think either of these might be a good idea, and to keep prize costs down, perhaps offer each member of the winning team a free barbecue and a pint? I'm sure the landlords will oblige as they like to support charity work.
So, what do you all think??? Grail or Chest?

Ever the practical person, I would vote for the chest. It could have a terrific finish, and would not be breakable. I am not sure about the jeweled rose bowl. I think wood lends itself better. Free dinner for the entire team if you can swing it would be great, too. I hope you have lots of participation.

No, the rose bowl would be metal... in fact, I came across a very nice pewter one, which would be ideal, with perhaps, purple jewels around the top... Take a look in the picture. Naturally, you have to use your imagination a bit. The grill would be taken out of the top and the jewels put around and under the fluted top of the rose bowl. I hope you can get that picture. lol. My imagination runs wild sometimes!
Yes, I thought it might encourage people to gel at a barbecue afterwards, and a free meal for the winning team with perhaps, a pint, would be great.
Ok... you're going for the chest. Thank you for your vote and Brightest Blessings.

Yes, I also thought I would get somebody to engrave it with the words, The Bolney Grail... what do you think? Then, maybe purple or red jewels around the top part, as in the photo. I think it would be like a cup, for the winner. If multiple winners, i.e. a team of four, they could share it, by holding it for 3 months each of the year, or something, if they wished to.
Brightest Blessings in thanks for your vote, my friend. xxx

Darkwing honey I think what you describe is fantastic! Brilliant idea - that is why I thought the Grail would be better than the chest - much more decoraative - you couldn't really inscribe the Bolney Chest on a wooden chest - it just wouldn't have the same impact! lol Seems like i am outvoted at the moment though! xxx

I'd go for the treasure chest Darkwing. Not only does it fit in with most people's thinking of a treasure, it would have more practical use for the winner.

First I would secure a prize. Then work on which to use and what to do with it. I am not upp on history, especially of other countries, so I would be of little help with ideas.
I think I would choose the chest though. If the prize is on a piece of 'parchment" (lol) the wind may blow it out of the grail.

What you say about the wind is true, but there is a porchway leading to the church door where I could place either of these items, perhaps over the doorway or on the window ledge. Or maybe the vicar would even open the church for me, so that I could make it a grander ending... the main part of our church being Saxon built. There is also the lychgate which has some pretty sheltered corners, so the weather won't bother me. :)
However, you voted chest, for which vote I thank you. Brightest Blessings.

I like the idea of the Chest. Make it look as old as possible also. Also, if you bury it, whatever is inside is not harmed. Hide it good. Make the hunt exciting. Let us know how this all turns out.

I have an idea of where to put it, since talking with the pub landlords last night.
One of them gave me a terrific lead and final clue, about an old sundial with a hole in it where the pointer used to go. It has Saxon connections, and when the church was added to, by the Normans, the sundial became housed in the entrance building on the side of the church, rendering it useless... so the treasure would stay dry and I wouldn't have to bury it. Also, the church is just across the way from the pub where we will be holding the barbecue, and the guys are donating a free barbecue for the winning team of four, so, I thought I would also add enough money, in coins or token coins, for the winners to each get a pint from the bar. That supports the pub as well as the charity, in return for all their help. So... things are coming together now. All I have to do is put the rest of the Hunt together! ha ha ha
Brightest Blessings and thank you for your vote.

They are both great ideas. I do thing the chest is a bit better because the paper would not blow away in the wind and if it rained it wouldn't get wet..that is if it will be left outdoors. It sounds like such fun. You must let us know how much you make on it.Bless u Doll

No, I don't intend to leave it outdoors Raydene. I thought either inside the church, if the vicar would agree, in the porchway of the church, if not, which is 2quite a big area, with places to install the treasure, or the lychgate which is also under cover. The oldest part of the church is Saxon built, which will be a prominent feature in this hunt, so I thought that only fitting and very close to the pub and finishing place.
Brightest Blessings in thanks for your vote.
