Do you have any real phobias?

Phobias! - They're very common.

I don't mean fears but true phobias. I would say, considering I was once agoraphobic (I was afraid of big - and little - public places when I was young) that my phobia is getting lost either in a big crowd or on a deserted highway. Ugh. I don't like big crowds to begin with and, if I get separated from who I am with, I really get freaked. And I don't like being lost out somewhere and having no idea how to get back. What's your phobia and how do you deal with it? Me? I don't let myself get separated from who I am with in a big crowd and I never drive alone in unfamiliar territory.

I know this is going to sound crazy but I have a phobia of hard shell bugs . When I was a child I went to brush my teeth one night , I looked on my toothbrush and never saw anything so continued to proceed to brush my teeth when I felt something moving in my mouth . I spit out what was in my mouth to realize it was a hard shell bug that by now was squished and gross but I could still feel the legs moving in my teeth . I ran downstairs screaming and crying to tell my parents and I really was terrified as I was nervous of bugs to begin with let alone feeling one in my mouth . My mohter laughed so hard she fell off her chair with tears rolling down her face , needless to say she was of no help to me whatsoever . Not sure after that how I ended up getting the legs out of my teeth because I don't remember anything after that but to this day I have such a fear of hard shell bugs that I can not be in the same room as one and I can't kill them because when I hear the crunch of one , it makes me feel like vomiting . Although it might sound funny it really does terrify me . My cousin ended up telling this story at my wedding as she was my maid of honor and thought it would be a cute story to tell those that didn't know this about me . Everyone got a kick out of it and even though it sounds funny to talk about it and I realize how strange it sounds , I have an extreme phobia over this type of bug , needless to say I have never once brushed my teeth again without checking every bristle on the brush and staring at my toothbrush to make sure nothing falls on it before I get it to my mouth :)

ACK! My sister has a phobia of ants. She flips out whenever there is even one around her. I have a friend who stepped on a slug in her bare feet when she was little and is terrified of them and won't go anywhere without shoes on in case there is a slug around. Your story would make me scared for life, that's for sure. Luckily, it's a pretty easy phobia to avoid. Just check out everything before you put it in your mouth. I don't think it is crazy OR funny. It makes me shiver just thinking of how you felt that day!

I have pyrophobia. Not small fires, but conflagaration type fires. When I was little, there was a big fire in our neighbor's house and I distinctly remember being carried by someone and we were running away from it with the fire right behind me. Until now I get so nervous whenever I hear the firetrucks' sirens. I can't watch a tv show or a movie with a big fire scene. I don't have any idea how to avoid it, but I myself is always cautious about things that might cause fire.I haven't really dealt with it since it rarely happens for me to see another big fire.

I think that is very normal after what you went through. I am afraid of fire myself. I always worry that the house will set on fire and am very careful around any type of fire. What you went through scares ME!

Hi there. Yes my phobias would be, having to crawl through small space, or even being in a small and cramped space... Also snakes would be another one, for simple reason of seeing negative movies about them and the fact that we dont have them here in our country...

No, not at all. I don't feel that there is anything in this world which makes me scare. I thing there are some childhood memory that are so strong impact on our mind, that we feel scared or those things or situations in our whole life.

Spiders! Big ones, little ones, skinny ones, fat ones...it doesn't matter! I turn all girly. ;) Yes, I'm a woman, but I'm talking screaming, crying, and yelling "kill it, kill it, kill it" even if no one is around. What is weird is that other types of bugs don't bother me. I have had pet snakes and an albino rat (he was so cool). Get me near a spider, especially one of those big honking, hairy wolf spiders, I freak. I don't know what made me so scared of them...it seems like it would be mice since my mom once made us kids sit on the counter for 2 hours until dad got home from work because she thought she saw one. :)

My true phobia seems to be at odds with one of my great passions. I have true Acrophobia. It once kept me from crossing a swinging bridge as a Boy Scout and, of course, got me ridiculed. I CANNOT go up to the edge of a high place, like a cliff or lookout point and look over the edge. I freeze in place if I try an move too close to the edge of something high. I get really uneasy if I try and climb too high on a ladder. Over the years I've managed to get a little better. Here's the dichotomy. I LOVE roller coasters. Ride the biggest, fastest, meanest ones every chance I get. My favorite all-time coaster is the Superman at Six Flags over Georgia. This thing actually tilts you forward and you fly around it like Superman. Yep. Total nutbar. That's me. I deal with it by not going to high places if I can help it and riding all the coasters I can find!
