how can i improve my performance of my hp laptop:: expert advice needed

hi every one. i am having:"hp laptop with following configuration:"1. 80gb hard disk
2 512 ram
3 centrino duo processor
but still i am facing some problems at the time of start up and processing speed
my computer also hangs up when i try to do multi tasking by opeaning 4-5 windows.
i welcome all the sincere comments that would help me in making my laptop run smooth and fast.

i think that u need a ram upgrade at least 1 gb is enough for multitasking,as i have 1gb myself
try a virus scan and spyware scan
there may b a virus in ur computer
increase the size of ur c:\ (partition)
(small partition will result in slow booting)
uninstall unwanted programs from ur c: drive

i find your sugesstions very useful. i will try out . but can u tell me how to go for partition
