I discovered an interesting fact in my Nightline Newsletter today. The founder of the Domino's Pizza chain, Tom Monaghan, has founded a town in Florida built around a university that he funded and a church that he also funded. The really odd thing about this, though, is that he is a devout Catholic, and plans to not allow anything of a "sinful" nature in his community. Supposedly, there will be no contraceptives sold, no x-rated cable tv chanels, etc. I visited the town's site and it looks like a nice place, but I don't think I would want to live in such a restricted atmosphere. They say that everyone will be welcomed there, but I seriously doubt it. Since he is said to have a lot of political clout it will be interesting to see how this story pans out. There is already opposition to some of the town's policies which has brought the ACLU into the mix.

i heard about it, and honestly found it quite weird. he is trying to create a utopia though and u have to respect him for trying, personally i think that money would have been better spent fixing other bad areas rather than creating a great super town for perfect people!

I have news for you, dvschic, there are no such things as "perfect people." Though some of us strive for perfection, we are human, and as such, subject to human failings.

It does sound nice, but because it is so restricted many won't want to be there..It will be interesting to see just what does happen..
