Here's another story of my boss at the lab, for anyone who is interested in attending my gripe session. On our chemistry analyser, we have been getting low results for total protein (in serum) for many months now,we haven't been able to figure out why. About 2 months ago, she made such a huge deal about any low results that are below normal (ANY LOW RESULTS) should be repeated. Usually when we repeat the test, the TP (total protein) result will come up a small bit (Like from 6.5 to 6.6. 6.7 is normal)I had only been repeating patient's that fell below 6.4, but she made such a fuss about how even 6.6 is abnormal and 6.7 is normal, so all lows need to be repeated. She even wrote it on my cheat sheet (a page that I used when I first started to tell me what results need to be repeated). Well, I have been noticing that on the days I'm not there and she's running the machine that she barely repeats any of the TP results. Even 6.0 results! But since she had told me to do it, I continued. It usually took me much longer to finish my testing because I'd be repeating so many TP's and they take about 13 min each. I felt it was trivial to try to bring our results up only a 10th of a point, but I'm not the boss. Earlier this week, she came over and saw that I was repeating a 6.5 result and said that she had stopped repeating low TP results months ago. Since they don't change much, she decided that it wasn't worth the extra time. She thought I would have caught on and made that decision as well, but it was up to me if I wanted to continue spinning my wheels for nothing. AAAHHHHHHhhhhh!!! I'd like to thump her on the nose sometimes!!

She really needs to get her act together..Every time she tells you something I would write it down and date it..Then if she has a problem, just show her your log of what she is and isn't saying...How are you suppose to be consistent when she isn't..Is there anyone else you can talk to about her? I am sorry for your trouble..You can't win for losing it seems with her...

This is a constant thing in our lab. She's even made me want to find another job, which is bad because it's the best place I've ever worked. I love being there, I love the clinic, all the Dr's, and it makes me feel good just being affiliated with such a great place. But one person can sure foul that up. I'll give other examples of what I have to put up with soon. Thanks for your input.

It sure is sad to think that one person can make you want to quit your job. I am glad that you like where you work, that does make things easier..
