Making Up your Own Mind

So many of us become our own worst enemies, when we fail to realize that we are the determining factor in what becomes of us. It is true that situations are not always to our advantage, but if things go bad it is usually because we make the wrong choices; Like which way to turn. Even worse, when we get in the habit of listening to everyone else, rather than making up our own minds. As the saying goes: As a man/Woman thinketh, so we chose our fate, destiny or whatever you want to call it. Just stop and think back to the number of times you looked to, or asked someone else's opinion; What should you do? I guess we are all guilty of that little slip; Even when we know better. I guess most people want instant results, but that is not the way it usually goes. Wrong thinking over a long period of time sets us on a wrong course, and that's the way we go. Bad Marriages, bad finances; Just a lot of little alterations, and before we know it, we are way off course; In fact, headed in a direction we did not intend. We need to make up our own minds(with nobody's help), decide what we want, and work on it, even if it does not work right away. Eventually, the sails will change to the corrected course that you desire and it will, in time, become a reality. A little quote fromt the Bible (believe it or not), says that "when two are together on one thing, it shall be!" I use to think that meant when two people agreed on one thing, but there is another way of interpreting this remark. We know that we possess two minds; One conscious, and one sub-conscious mind. Maybe, that saying meant instead, that when the conscious and sub-conscious minds agree...Makes sense to me. We deal mostly with the worldly(conscious) mind and it has the power of reasoning; To decide what is right, wrong, what we want, and all those things, but it does not run the show. It only makes decisions, but the sub-conscious mind(no power of reason), is the one at the controls, but only does what the conscious mind tell it to do. When the conscious mind makes a wrong choice, the subscious mind(like a tape recorder)goes to work, based on what the other told it. The sub-conscious mind works to create our world; To manipulate the surroundings, to bring about what the conscious mind decided, was to be. It is easy to make excuses, but ultimately, we are the culprits. We do it to ourselves(me included). We have to make up our minds, as to what direction we want to go and turn a deaf ear to everyone else's opinion. If you start to listen(doubt), your course is altered again. Just thank them for their good intentions and let them know you have already decided, then set out in your desired direction.

Again, that's one thought-provoking topic of yours. It's taken so long to write to this one mainly because i do not know how to respond to it. I really do like your topics so far. They're really good ones but the sad fact is these types of discussion are really not meant to be in MyLot. Members here rarely want to discuss these topics because they're, well "heavy". Many of the topics i saw here are mostly light, ridiculous or nonsensical stuff that only saw the light of day here because people only want to make a little money or just post for fun to pass time. Yours belong in a more intelligent forums because they talk about your views of the world. Your analysis of the workings of the mind was pretty impressive. Must say i'm quite taken in by your reasoning about our subconscious shaping our views of the world. I'd never heard of anyone with your analogy of describing our "fate or destiny" in this world. Many people (that includes this writer) often subscribe to the "fate being determined for us" thinking at one time or another. You said, "turn a deaf ear to everyone else's opinion". What if they were good and valid ones? What if we doubt our own decisions? People always make excuses for everything-other people, their surroundings, the the circumstances they are in, instead of their own self. This writer is guilty of that too. He try to change everyone or hope everyone (or everything) will change so that he could become happier. Later, he realized that he can't really change someone. He can only change himself and hopefully that change would influence others in a positive way. One important lesson he learned is happiness is a choice we make in life. It is not something that we receive from others, even though we may like to think so. And so is unhappiness. But we could always try to make the ones we loved happy. I have to keep reminding myself of that from time to time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. You have a good day Yesah and i hope you keep on posting discussions like these because there are so few of these thought provoking ones on this site.
