Why do people hate lawyers so much?

Funny thing about lawyers is that people like to bad-mouth them until they get in a bad situation. And, then they are begging to see one! Isn't that funny? So, I was wondering, why do you think people hate lawyers so much? Do you think the bad feelings stem from a negative experience with the legal community? Or, is it just a stereotype? As for me, I'm happy that we are allowed to be represented by a legal professional in the civil and criminal courts. Otherwise many more people would be living in jail! However, I do wish more regular citizens took the time to learn about the law themselves, so that they could know what was in their own best interest. Then they might be able to avoid situations that would require a lawyer. What do you think of this subject? Do you detest lawyers? Why do you feel that way?

I think this situation is like all other professions - we see some shady characters and then apply that across the board. Unfortunately, in every court case there is a lawyer trying to defend the guilty party. We hear of people guilty of crimes such as murder who get off because they had a better lawyer, or because of some technical point. That colors our opinion of the legal system. If the guilty were always convicted and our world was safer because of it, I don't think we would dislike lawyers so much. Also, we know how rich lawyers become off of the misfortunes of others. That doesn't help.

Dear beautyqueen26, If the lawyer is a honest man and sincere man it is better otherwise the lawyer will start making money out of your troubled situation. I had in the past to deal with a lawyer, he turned out to be one of the worst rogue I have ever seen. Insted of doing good to my case he adopted all the means method to weak my case. Ultimately due to my lawyer's mean method I lost the case. Again I filed suit with another good lawyer he won the case. In case of any legal case, first of all you have to be sure that the lawyer you are appointing to fight the case is a honest and sincere man.

I don't see them as different from other professionals. Accountants and lawyers for example charge about the same price. If you can't afford them, you can get legal clinic or arrange with them to pay installment for their service, and yes they will charge you interest just like any other installments. I of course struggle to do my best, but there is always time I stumble and learn the hard way. But I think lawyers just represent their clients, good or bad.

I think people make fun of lawyers just about the same as they do politicians, or certain ethnic groups, or whatever people make fun of. I have several friends who are lawyers and they are fine people. They do tend to ask a lot of hard questions, and they are rather thick-skinned (uneffected by people's heartaches), but that is what makes them good at what they do. They can't be sappy. They'd never help anyone that way. I am thankful for the honest lawyers out there who help people when they are oppressed by others, or can straighten out legal papers which sound like gobbledy-guk to the rest of us! I only dislike (not "detest") the lawyers that cheat people and take advantage of them when they are down. Good subject!

Its hard to be a lawyer i suppose. Because some times you have to defend bad people, well in the most of the cases you have to do it. For that reason i think the people hate lawyers.
