does anyone else think that their college degree has failed them?

I received a bachelor of arts degree in Criminology in 2002 and I swear I have yet to be at a job where I'm not working side by side sometimes making less money than someone who doesn't have a degree but has experience. Is having a college degree really worth it or should you use those years to build experience and time?

The thing about it is, no one wants to just hear what you can do. They want you to be able to prove that you can do the job and do it well. That is where the college degree comes in. It proves that you have been well trained in the field that you are applying for. But then you have to still get in there and prove what you can do. This reminds me of the catch 22. You can't get a job if you don't have experience, but you can't get experience without having a job.

Exactly, that's where I'm having the problem in my field. I need the experience more than the degree just to get into the field and be treated the same as people who have that experience. The knowledge from the degree comes in once you progress and flourish from the job.
