Bush, Suburban or Urban?

Where do people prefer to walk, and what is your motivation. Are you into hikes and bushwalks, or do you just walk around the block once a day to meet daily exercise requirements? Do you live in the city and just walk to and from work or public transport? Why do you walk? I like to walk when I'm stressed out, or any time that it's raining. Even when I don't feel bad when I set out on one of these walks, I always return home feeling even better. It feels good to have some time to think, be alone, listen to music etc. Personally, I walk around my local area in the evening or night, and any time I get a chance to get out of the hustle and bustle, I like to go to national parks etc for a more natural, serene walk. I'm interested in other people's methods and reasons. =]

I've enjoyed walking in all those settings. In SF it was wonderful to walk around the city for hours. In Alaska I adored walking everywhere - I guess that was a big city too - anchorage - and would rather walk an hour to work then wait for the bus. I used to love taking hikes on the weekends, places like Muir Woods in Marin, or Harper's Ferry or Edward's Ferry in VA. I now live in the desert and I used to walk to and from school which was about 45 minutes away. Now that I'm a SAHM I walk along a track surrouned by trees with my baby in the morning - otherwise I stay in. I can't breathe out there on hot days. I love the rain, walking or dancing or...is even better. My reasons are health, relaxations, recharging my batteries, peace

That's what I'm here for! =P Likewise, though, it sounds like you've had a few lovely adventures of your own.

What a great answer! I completely forgot about dancing in the rain!! Definitely awesome. Sounds like you've walked all over, it makes me jealous! I'm from Australia, and visited Tasmania a few years ago and Austria last year. In both of these places I hiked, bushwalked, meandered about the cities taking in the sights, sounds and smells. During my time in Austria, I also took a day tour to both Czec Republic and Hungary, walking from end to end of the capital cities. It's so amazingly relaxing to go for a short stroll or a walk 'with a purpose'. I find it hard to believe or imagine that so many people skimp out on exercise when it's so wonderful and exhilarating! I think it's great that you take your baby on walks with you through 'exotic' scenery, it must be great for him/her =] Mal.

Bush walking, music, notebook, alone... The bush is inspiring, along with music and a notepad, I can get out heaps of ideas and 'wotnot'

No water or snacks? What happens when you become dehydrated? has Ms. Parbery taught you nothing?! Yeah, a notepad is always nice... Perhaps even a thermos of something warm, when your significant other isn't along for the trek.

I have my 'walking medicine' for every 30 minutes in-a-day and I don't take fixed time to start. Maybe in the morning or evening before dusk. And the route never bother me either bush or urban as far as the air is not polluted. And refreshing my mind as well. My priority is the nearby the foothill as it provide me the greenery surrounding for refreshing my eyeballs after a long hours working at the computer.

Thankyou for your response, it's good to hear that you take the time to get away from the computer and technology for a while and do something a bit more healthy. Keep up the good work, Michael.

I'm a soccer player, and that's my main form of exercise and relaxation, I just love being on the field. I am trained as a goaly for one of the major teams in my area, so I train atleast 3 times a week as well as 2-4 games of a weekend. Sometimes I walk to my games from my house, which I enjoy as it is a scenic, solitary walk. I also like to rollerblade whenever I get the chance.
